A young Brooklyn woman who was retrieving her mail early Friday was shot during a botched robbery, police sources said.
The victim was shot once in the chest and twice in the midsection while standing at her mailbox in the lobby of her apartment building on Maple St. near Kingston Ave. in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens about 1:20 a.m., the sources said.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, cops said.
Cops are hunting the gunman, who was wearing all black clothing. Police ask anyone with information on the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

My brother was Asst..DA of Nassau County, he told me a dozen times, by the time you make the first move towards getting your gun out of your pocket book or your pocket you will be shot dead by the perp also if you are lucky enough to be able to get your shot in, better shoot to kill…..or you will be in court the rest of your life and maybe jail too. That’s not the point. In this particular story, our friendly “locked and loaded Lubavitcher” would be an idiot to pull out his weapon with a gun pointed at him at close range. Making a move for his pocket or holster would most certainly cause the perp to panic and shoot.

There is more to self-protection than just owning a firearm. You have to learn how to use it, and train regularly. Many crimes are prevented by armed and properly trained civilians, check the statistics. Of course, a person has to be mentally willing to do what is necessary. It’s easy to see what you stand for- And it’s not the life and freedom of the innocent citizen. Clearly, the shooting victim is not what bothers you, only the comments of outrage over the attack. Further, I fully agree with #3 that for the safety of the public against increasing crime, all forms of protection, including weapons, are a priority. You, it seems, are the one who truly needs help. i live on this block and i am in shock that there is absolutely no police presence at all within twelve hours of the crime.
This is perhaps not the best time and place to discuss the best response to this situation or a plan for preventing further occurrences. Maybe meetings should be arranged with the police force and a greater community outcry should be heard, but ranting and raving about it on collive will not produce the results you are looking for, particularly if the writing style you choose to employ is belligerent and aggressive. Get real and stop it with the nonsense. There are 44,000 cops in NYC. Cops that YOU are paying for in tax money. There are enough police in this city to patrol every street many times over throughout the night. Here is the problem: they are not working hard enough. I had a robbery in my home last week.
The landlord was lax in ensuring the door to the lobby closed securely.
Now there was 2 other shootings since then.
A law should be passed that any building with
multiple residential units must have video surveillance.
The rents are astronomical and crime is up.
This will deter criminals and make the shechuna of the Rebbe safe again.
