No one can imagine what it is like to sit in the ICU with the lights beeping. The fear that settles in the air; thick as slush. The unshed tears that lay in their eyes unspilled as they try to retain the façade of calm.
On the other hand no one should know what it is like to expect help for Pesach, but it just doesn’t come. When you open the mail only to find it filled with bounced check statements. When stores refuse to extend you anymore credit and you must leave your shopping cart behind.
Yes the food packages come to the door. But you open it with a sinking feeling as many things are spoiled or don’t have a hechsher; after all you are so poor you don’t have a right to care about kashrut; or do you?
What do these two horrifying scenarios have in common? One woman- a powerhouse in strength – Mrs. Scheiner.
For many many years she has operated a Chesed operation in Crown Heights. No matter what the weather and no matter how sick she is – She has stood on her porch directing a massive operation providing chickens and other food stuffs to those in our community that needed it for yom tov. It did not matter what health issues she was suffering from; she battled for months to raise all the money she needed.
It seemed that nothing could stop her….. Until this winter when her beloved husband lay in the operating room having open heart surgery. Thoughts of contacting donors through her trusty phone or by mail flew away from her as her husband lay there barely clinging to life. Sleepless nights followed worry filled days as prayer just filled her head. Baruch H-Shem he is now in rehab learning how to walk again – learning how to do those things we take for granted. He needs her.
But so do the widows, orphans, and so many other people who have fallen on tough times. They need her butcher fresh chickens with the highest hechshers.
She just had her shoe drive for the poor little toes that are stuck wearing broken, too small, or too big shoes. For the very first time she hadn’t raised enough money (who could have expected her to) and many many people were turned away.
She is endorsed by Rav Schwei (Mora d’Asra Crown Heights) and Rabbi Mangel (a giant in our community.) The both understand the value and need for her work.
Now her work has taken an urgency. It is in the merit for her dear husband’s, Tzvi Dov Ben Gittel, swift and complete recovery. Please help her help so many people. Be generous with your donations and in that zchus you should reach great heights in your Torah learning and great success in personal matters and may we have Moshiach now!
