Rabbi Avraham Korf, Head Shliach of Florida, issued an “urgent message to the South Florida Jewish community” on Thursday, following the devastating collapse of a residential building in Surfside.
It reads:
“In light of the recent tragedy, namely the collapse of a building in our immediate vicinity, it behooves us to take a moment to reflect. When something happens to one, and how much more so, to many, we as a community, the “Tzibbur”, have the strength to bring about change.
“We must come together and renew our commitment to Torah, Mitzvos, and Ahavas Yisroel.
“While no one person amongst us is qualified to attempt at a reason for this tragedy, I strongly encourage everyone, men, women and children, to take a moment and think where he/she can better himself, to increase in Torah, Tefilla and Tzedaka, the three pillars that our sages tell us the world stands upon.
”Let us take this opportunity to take on more mitzvos, beseeching mercy from Above.
We must collectively request from our Father in Heaven to bring about the ultimate and complete redemption, and take us out of this exile now.”
Hashem has decreed apon us one tragedy apon another… does it have to hit us so hard to realize that we must make changes Bein Adam L’chaveiro? Afterall, why was the 2nd Beis Hamikdash destroyed. It says specifically because of Sinas Chinam. R’Hillel summed up the Torah on one foot ” “That which you wouldn’t want done to you don’t to your “friend”. Our Rebbe’s mission was Ahavas Yisroel… now we are like a ship without a captain. We need to continue the mission “Ahavas Chinam” and rally around making Shalom. NOT ch”v to be scared of Bullies. Take time… Read more »
Wake up Yidden! Lets overwhelm our fellow Jews with love, acceptance and kindness! Learning Hilchos Shmiras Haloshon is a first step.
Look at the achdus in meron(hundreds stood still to avoid trampling on their fellow),the achdus in the beautiful 3rd tammuz siyum haRambam, the achdus in thousands of chapters tehillim being said for ppl worldwide via WhatsApp, millions $ raised by tzedaka campaigns,BH we have a Rebbe Nassi Hador may we continue to strengthen the beautiful achdus of klal yisroel and see the complete geula with our fleshly eyes!!!!
It’s very nice that you have a positive eye However much work needs to be done. There are families where people do NOT talk to each other!!! There is gossip and slander and the like. Hashem is sending us a message. Why do we need tragedies to fall upon us in order to unite.
Let’s learn from these horrific tragedies so we wont ch”v deserve another.
#united for Ahavas Chinam
# No Free Speech.
Let us unite and learn and practice Shmiras Halashon
As a wise man once said – loving your fellow human has a very simple formula – don’t do to another what you wouldn’t want done to you, and do onto others as you’d like done to you.
Whether or not this behavior would prevent a building collapse or help find survivors, is a different conversation, but mutual respect and love certainly will help find the positive light in everyone and prevent the collapse of civility.
Very true that no one can say why the tragedy occurred and that each person must look into their deeds. Simply put, the Holy Temple was destroyed because of Sinas Chinam. To merit the Geula we are still working on Sinas Chinam for over 400 years as every year that the Beis HaMikdash is not rebuilt it’s as if it was destroyed. How good is Torah and Tefila if the same mouth is committing aveiros?? We need to rekindle the spirit our Rebbe was outspoken about, that of Ahavas Yisroel and bringing about Shalom between people. Our motto ought to… Read more »
Disputes between jews should be resolved immediately, and especially between our Rabbis, Shluchim and heads of communities.
Shluchim should end beefs with one another, stop seeing their neighborhoods or states as a “Risk” board game or “territories”. We’re all here to bring Moshiach and we should be all united for the same goal.
Moshiach now!
Agreed.
Rabbanim please sit down with both parties when there is a dispute.
Do NOT listen to 1 sided “stories”. The true way to make Shalom between people is a Rav invites all parties to say “their side”. Hopefully this will eradicate Machlokes.
