The Beis Menachem Mendel Semicha program in Flatbush, New York, led by Rabbi Yochanan Marosov, recently established a Kollel Yom Rishon Halacha symposium.
The response to the Kollel has been overwhelming, and over 30 people have been attending each week. Each month the theme of the shiur differs. The topic of Chabad custums and their sources in Gmorah and Poskim was covered during the month of Kislev.
Teves has brought the topic of Kashrus to light. Previous classe were given by Rabbi M. Lipsker, Mashpia in the Yeshiva, and Chabad Shliach Rabbi Chaim Brickman of Seagate, NY.
The most recent guest speaker was Rabbi Yitzchak Hanoka of the OK Kashrus Laboratories, who captivated the crowd with a comprehensive shiur in the intricate laws of Bishul akum. From the factory to the kitchen, the entire topic and its relevance to day to day living was played out. Questions such as whether smoked fish and sushi were allowed to whether Kemach Cheerios are preferable to General Mills.
The shiurim take place every Sunday morning beginning with a shiur in Chasidus at 8:15, given by Rabbi Yochanan Marosov, followed by 9:30 Shacharis, complementary buffet breakfast and then the halacha shiur at 11:00.

Eli Simon Where are you?!
somebody whos learning in israel last year in montreal
Royal food?
“Food that would/could be served at a banquet.”, would be a more meaningful (and accurate) translation of “Oleh al shulchan melachim.”
Melachim is a description of the shulchan (at which such food would be presented), not the other way around (that shulchan is a total sub-set of melachim.)
This is a field that is commonly missunderstood, and I commend you for geting ” out there” and claryfying many of these Kashrus issues.
