Nearly 200 people filled the mezzanine of the darkened stunning sanctuary/auditorium in Chabad of Flamingo for the third annual Flamingo Film Festival.
This year, the featured film screened was a modified version of Jewish Educational Media’s recent documentary “Faithful + Fortified.” On hand were executive producer Rabbi Elkana Shmotkin, JEM’s director, Rabbi Yechiel Cagen, director of the “My Encounter With The Rebbe” Project and Moshe Levy, an Israeli War Hero – one of only 40 people ever to receive Israel’s highest military honor, Gibor Yisrael.
The film was interspersed with brief comments by Chabad at Flamingo’s Spiritual Leader, Rabbi Mendel Kaplan as well as the film’s producer Rabbi Shmotkin.
The climax of the evening unfolded as the film drew to a close with Moshe movingly recounting his life-altering meeting with the Rebbe in 1975, spotlights dramatically revealed Moshe Levy standing on a stage in front of the surprised audience, who responded with a standing ovation.
Moshe, who lost his right arm in the Yom Kippur War, told the assembled about growing up as a war orphan and about ardent desire for peace, but stated that it must come out of strength not G-d forbid weakness. In deference to a request made, he told the incredible story of the climatic battle that cost him his arm, and nearly his life but earned him Israel’s Medal of Courage.
>>No, not 3 dozen – there was almost 100 people there!
sometime big cities can also struggle for a crowd – don’t judge by numbers
No, not 3 dozen – there was almost 100 people there!
Disappointed with the photos – give impression that many seats were empty and the crowd sparse. Article says there were 200 people, but photos show barely 3 dozen.
why such a bad turnout 4 such an evening?
