Heads of the Chabad Yeshiva in the central Israeli city of Cholon are searching for alternative accommodations for students after a fire broke out in the dormitory building.
At around 9:00 PM this past Monday, the kitchen in the dorm went up in flames. According to one account, two bochurim were making themselves dinner when the deep fryer became caught up in flames.
They tried to put out the fire but when the flames grew they called the fire department to the building that was especially built in 2008 and contains a dining room, 2 kitchens, 10 bedrooms and 5 restrooms, a small mikvah and laundry room.
Before evacuating the premises, the bochurim ran to alert their friends of the situation. They all managed to escape without harm and take with them the Torah scrolls that are used when they daven on Shabbos in the building.
The fire has damaged much of the building and one bochur told COLlive.com that the building might even be demolished. The students of the Yeshiva spent this past Shabbos in the village of Migdal.
The Yeshiva Gedola was founded in 2005 by Cholon’s Chief Rabbi Yochanan Gourarie for English and Yiddish speaking bochurim from the USA and other countries. The Rosh Yeshiva is Rabbi Shlomo Chaim Feldman.

Actually the boys were not frying. The cause is unknown.
The Yeshiva is taking very good care of the boys and are making proper arrangements for adequate housing for the duration.
Thank You
You obviously were never in a yeshiva before!!!
Welcome to the real world!
I am so relieved and thankful to Hashem that all the boys got out safely! I am now concerned about their safety and physical needs. Being so far from home and being displaced is so difficult. I hope they are getting proper housing, consistent good meals, belonging replaced, etc
Srry I fill so bad hope they will find a knew dorm soon for the boys and they should be more careful with the kitchen
Shimon Deitsch always there to lend a hand with a positive attitude. Hope you guys get settled in a safe place soon.
By a bachur currently in yeshivah this story is a complete distortion from the truth i was there and there were no bachurim involved it remains unclear as to what caused the fire
they’re probably happy because they got the sifrei torah out…
What exactly r Yeshivah boys doing in the kitchen and with a deep fryer???
woohoo new haven boys! hope you all are safe
their not happy, but generally when these things happen to ‘dormies’ you take a picture and smile.
and they did a wonderful thing by taking the sifrei torah – so proud!
Not the first time the yeshiva had a fire incident regarding oil,
