Two masked men riding a white motorcycle tried to rob a jeweler in the central Israeli village of Kfar Chabad on Tuesday afternoon.
Shmira patrol volunteers were called to the scene to assist the police in their search efforts, but the bandits were quick to escape.
An initial investigation revealed that the merchant was driving when the robbers motioned to him to stop the car and fired two shots. A bullet hole was found in a nearby backpack.
Surveillance footage of two cameras shows the thieves fleeing the village, home to chassidic families and the headquarters of Chabad-Lubavitch in Israel.
The attempted robbery was a rare occurrence in the village, located near the Ben Gurion Airport in Lod, which regularly hosts large farbrengen gatherings and tourists interested in chassidic life.
