Camp Geulah, based in Beis Rivkah Montreal, organized a Shlichus Convention for young girls ages 6-12 in loving memory of R’ Gavriel Noach and Rivky Holtzberg H’YD, who epitomized true lamplighters.
“The convention was organized to show the campers that being a Shlucha is about who you are, whether you have a Chabad House or not,” said Chaya Serraf, head counselor.
“Having a Chabad house is definitely a bonus, but being a lamplighter depends on who you are essentially.”
The theme of the entire summer was all about building your home in a way that is befitting for a Bas Chabad and eventually turning it into your very own own Chabad House.
The camp was organized according to weekly themes, which included building your foundation, furnishing your Home, exploring your rooms, event hosting, and my Chabad house.
Every child received a personalized badge with their name and “I’m a proud Shlucha at” – and their home address printed beneath it.
The convention was organized by Head Counselor Chaya Serraf and prepared with the hard work of the campers and counselors.
Mothers joined with their daughters for the program, which was planned to feel like the real Kinnus Hashluchos which takes place in Crown Heights every year. The program consisted of a shluchos panel, a choir, roll call (by street), slideshow of summer camp, and a guest speaker, Mrs. Esther Teichtel, from Tennessee.
Mrs. Teichtel related how her daughter helped raise money for toys and gifts for Moishy Holtzberg, surviving son of the Holtzbergs, in honor of her Bas Mitzvah.
Camp Geulah is directed by Rabbi and Mrs. Berkowitz and is based in Bais Rivkah of Montreal.
