Learn and Live aims to keep Jewish girls in Israel out of abusive situations. To do so, they employ trained volunteers and professional staff to prevent, rescue, and rehabilitate.
There will be a presentation by representative Leora Adam, formerly of Toronto, on Tuesday night, September 10 at 8:30 PM at the Levi Yitzchok Library, 305 Kingston Avenue near Eastern Parkway. (#3 Train to Kingston Ave). The community is invited to this free event.
Live and Learn’s main focus is rescuing girls who have been kidnapped and taken to Arab villages. According to Adam, “vulnerable young women are prey… to people knowing how to recognize it…. They court these girls and eventually invite them to their homes. By that time, these guys are the best thing that ever happened to them.” They operate interactive youth centers for youth-at risk of abusive relationships in several Centers throughout the country, as well as half-way homes where basic needs are attended to. In the homes, young women receive safe shelter, food, clothing and guidance to help them in the early stages of their rehabilitation. The girls receive counseling, therapy, social & educational enrichment, vocational job training and job placement assistance.
Mrs. Adam described recent Purim patrol in which L & L volunteers went looking out for drunk or drugged young women in danger. Having been briefed in advance on how to handle a crisis, these volunteers have learned when and how to step in. For example, on Purim, L & L set up shelter tents where they spent the night as well as snacks, breakfast, and cab or bus fare home.
One case study of a rescue: Sara, a young from the town of Raak, was wined and dined by Bedouin boy. He took her to his village but then she was trapped, she had no way out. She got pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy but shortly afterwards, the Bedouin boy’s father gave Sara drugs “to help her get over the birth.” His real intention was to get her addicted and he succeeded. Her situation worsened, and social services were invited to the house to see a new mother who could not take care of her baby. Subsequently he was given custody of the baby, with no rights for the mother. Learn and Live got hold of the story, and rescued the girl from his house, from drugs and abuse but sadly, she no longer has her son.
Live and Learn, a non-profit organization founded in 2009. They have 32 centers in 21 cities. The shelters are full and are seeking to build an additional one as the need is so great.
Misandry is the dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against men.
I don’t see any of that here.
everyone spread the word!
What about saving men trapped in abusive relationships with women? Why the misandry?
Also, Jewish girls should be saved from relationships with arab men regardless whether the arabs are abusive, and the same goes for Jewish men in relationships with arab women.
There are so many organizations that seek to destroy families under false pretenses of abuse and call women “trapped” just to raise money and make headlines. So it’s nice to see a real organization that’s doing real good work, saving Jewish girls, batei haMelech, from unscrupulous Arabic kidnappers.
Although we dont live with arabs there are plenty similar situations happening right here, we should open a us branch or start something similar and save neshomos
Preventing such tragedies by given those girl what they need
to build up a true Yiddishe family
