Empire Kosher, Crown Heights’ only remaining kosher supermarket, is expanding hours to service the community, COLlive has learned.
The grocery will be open 24 hours on Thursday and will only close at 12 AM on other week days.
A source said the expansion is in response to the influx of customers due to the Tishrei visitors and also the absence of the newly purchased supermarket ‘The Shuk.’
In addition, the whole entrance area has been widened, another register was added and valet parking will be available Thursdays and Fridays.
Itzik Benabou, the owner, confirmed this information.
Asked about The Shuk, we’re told that it will reopen sometime in the weeks after Tishrei.
“They couldn’t open it right away because of the bad shape the whole store, including the sewer system, was in,” a merchant said.
The large supermarket is under going major renovations with new floors, new and improved lighting and upgraded advanced computer equipment.
Go Yudel! You will be really busy with those new hours.
When EK was Associated the delivery trucks use to use the driveway, to deliver behind the store, why cant they do that now?
the kollel store charges $2.00 a box for delivery. and Empire Kosher is FREE DELIVERY
neat, clean, curteous, pleasure to shop, staff are so mentschlach – almost miraculous. sad i had to wait so long, but exhilirated that it finally happened.
thanks Iztik – B”H you are sooo efficient and helpful to make sure we are satisfied customers. my hat goes off to you. may Hashem bless you that you make enough, that we can benefit to by maintaining reasonable prices – thanks 🙂
in the end of the day I will shop EK only as I like the wide aisles..the spaciousness and selection…just the whole decor. I believe he is trying to emulate Pomegranate with his new store soon too open. if he does he will be hugely succesful as most people want that especially in CH. CH is more and more a more hip hood, lots of yuppies, lots of lubab yuppie types and lots and lots of families that want the pomegarnate or similair experience. Yes, those that want Kollel will and can shop there by all means..but there is a… Read more »
a pleasure to shop there. wide aisles, well lit, clean, and everything in one store without having to spend more time going to 5 separate stores. no more Boro Park for me!! who has the time to shlep there?
who makes a sale with $20 of regular items and 2 limited per person??? you cant have it both ways when EK makes a sale they should only have the $20 purchase or limit 2 per customer otherwise there is no sale but end up spending more on the non-sale items then saving on the sale items
I love EK, great store good prices. easy shopping.
However, I’m not sure what this article is trying ot accomplish by stating that it is the only supermarket in Crown Heights.
What are the author’s requirements in order for a grocery to be considered a ‘supermarket’?
Sometimes, for convenience (I live around the corner from EK) it’s worth spending a little more money & not having to take an extra 40 minutes of driving + looking for parking if the parking lot is closed/full at KRM
it means monopoly.
can charge whatever they feel like.
I would love to shop at the other stores if they would also offer fresh meat, fresh produce, sale items, and I could either park there easily or fit my stroller inside the store. For many of us its not worth shopping in a minimum of 3 different stores every week.
Duhh! Great observation!
KAHANS WILL BE OPEN OPEN LATE HOURS TO AND YOU WILL GET SERVICE WITH A SMILE THERE.
i think you wrote it backwards, everyone runs to EK b/c lots of other stores charge double! (never mind that they’re always stocked, and provide really fast service….)
Amazing how EK charges double then kahns kosher town & kleins yet most of CH run to go shop there!!! go to the kolle store and they have free delivery
Leave it up to Itzik to see a difficult issue and come up with multiple solutions within a matter of hours. Itzik is a mover and a doer. Look how clean the store is, merchandise well stocked, aisles clear of debris. The staff has always been polite and helpful to me.
EK rocks!
they need more space at the vegetables!!!!!!!!!!! (take away a whole isle of shampoos, wipes pans etc. and make more room for vegetables)
Are they going to do something about the trucks double parking so cars can’t get past because of the new system? How about overnight/early morning/late night deliveries to reduce traffic congestion? It is outrageous to have vehicles backed up past Kingston to Albany because there are so many trucks delivering at the same time. I saw a police car stuck for 10 minutes & the driver was really annoyed too.
Is Mr. Benabou is only interested in making money, not in being considerate to the public?
Now, if he would only reduce his prices to be comparable with the collel store, we will be all set!
it’s nice to see a store owner really listening to the public and taking action. I know it’s all for the bottom line, but it’s still very nice.
what ever happened to kol tuv?
“Empire Kosher, Crown Heights’ only remaining kosher supermarket”….
what does that mean??
This will be very convenient for me. I always shop at crazy hours, thats when i have time!
WOW that is soo cool!!
Yudel Rabin I always see you in that store lol
