    Election Day: Hour-long Lines

Election Day USA opened this morning with long lines forming early around the county. Candidates Barack Obama and John McCain voted in their hometowns and called on residents to go out and vote. The final ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll puts it at a nine-point race, 53-44 Obama over McCain. First images from Crown Heights polling stations in Photos

While New York State has largely been a solidly “blue” state for the past six presidential elections (including this one), it wasn’t always that way. New York went Republican in ’72, ’80, and ’84, and went Democrat in ’76 by a very narrow margin. Furthermore, just ten years ago, NY was represented by a three-term conservative Republican US Senator, our good friend, Al D’Amato, and recently for three terms by Republican Governor George Pataki. In short, Anash in Crown Heights should get out there and vote — and make sure their vote is counted.

all the Rabbonim of Chavrei Bada”tz were there, starting with Rabbi Osdoba Rabbi Segal, Rabbi Zirkind and Rabbi Bogomilsky, they spent yesterday at least 15 hours (from 6:30am till they returned at 10:00pm) showing their support to the rosh hakohol, the only one that wasnt present was Rabbi Shwei, so the chutzpa is on him not on the Rabbonim that spend their 15 hours

The community en masse pushed for McCain votes, but according to CNN, the majority of the Orthodox Jewish community voted for Obama – as did I. Why on earth wouldn’t people?
