A Sefer Torah has been donated for the first time in 100 years to Melbourne’s downtown city area.
The scroll was given by Sam Briskin and his family in loving memory of Mr. Mark Briskin Z’L to Chabad Of Melbourne CBD and welcomed by its shliach Rabbi Chaim Herzog.
The Sefer Torah was completed by the Sofer Rabbi Eli Gutnick in the Block Arcade in front of a large sector of Melbourne’s Jewish Community.
The Torah was featured in a singing and dancing processions on Collins Street to the Melbourne Town Hall where a Seudah took place.
Rabbi Herzog addressed the audience followed by David Southwick, MP Member for Caulfield who spoke and danced with the Yeshivah Gedollah Shluchim.
Rabbi Herzog is celebrating The Chabad of Melbourne’s CBD 20th anniversary this year.
