Just a little over a year since DollarDaily.org first launched, helping Chabad shluchim worldwide with daily automated $1 donations from a pool of dedicated givers, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve officially reached the $600 a day mark.
One dollar might not seem like much, but its impact is enormous. For example, the Kinus banquet had 6500 people. If 6500 people agreed to donate a dollar a day, that’s $6500 for a Chabad House in need of funds. Amazingly, 600 people have already joined our cause, which makes partnering with shluchim a breeze that won’t leave a hard dent in anyone’s wallet.
Additionally, shluchim who might need a little extra boost or just want to sponsor a pair of tefillin can reach out and request funds from DollarDaily.
In the actual theme of Hakel, Jews worldwide unite to spread the mission of Ahavas Yisrael. For just a dollar a day, anyone can take part in this world-changing mitzvah. Our services are fully transparent; You can easily see which Chabad center is that day’s recipient, giving you the peace of mind of knowing exactly where your dollars are going.
“As the Gemara says, ‘Whoever has one hundred wants two hundred,’” explains R’ Yosef Shidler, founder of the site. “I aspire to the day when DollarDaily can give shluchim amounts that not only enable them to buy food, clothes, or pay for a cleaning lady, but when they can renovate their shuls, pay off debts, and ease heavy financial strain. As we stand on the precipice of Yom Kippur, it is hard to imagine a better time to join the hundreds of DollarDaily subscribers.”
HOW DO WE PICK WHO GETS WHAT AND WHEN?
How do we decide where our dollars are going? DollarDaily puts in a lot of effort to ensure diversity. You’ll notice the funds go towards Chabad Houses, C-teens, young professionals, and also campus shluchim. Part of the original idea is that we have recipients all over the world. We try to avoid repeating locations in the same month. So, for example, unless there is a pressing cause, like the war in Ukraine or the Hurricanes in Florida, we keep a manageable number of recipients from the same state or country to diversify our giving. We get many requests from places like California or Israel and try to spread it out over a few months.
Of course, our number one priority is shluchim who are going through hard times, so you can bet that they’ll get priority when a shliach tells us they are about to have their electric cut off or that their mortgage hasn’t been paid in 6 months.
Additionally, the DollarDaily fund works hand and hand with Yadlshliach.org, so when necessary, Yadlshliach.org can add an extra few hundred or even a thousand dollars to help the situation, depending on its urgency.
We work requests into our schedule as quickly as possible, but with the utmost discretion. The beauty of this program is that our subscribers can see where their money is going every day, and they’re satisfied knowing that they played a part in helping shluchim in so many different places, yet, at the same time, you don’t need to know which shluchim are from urgent situations or which are just receiving help sponsoring a new pair of tefillin. It’s simultaneously anonymous and transparent.
“I thought I knew a lot about shlichus,” says Shidler, “but DollarDaily.org has been eye-opening. We’ve gotten more than a few requests for help from shluchim in places I’ve never even heard of. I pull up Google Maps and marvel at people giving up all the comforts of home to spread Yiddishkeit in incredibly remote areas. We have the ability to partner with them for just $1.”
