It is well known that the My Encounter with the Rebbe research team has been working tirelessly to learn about the Rebbe and Rebbetzin’s years in Europe for the Early Years Series, interviewing many people who remember the Rebbe and Rebbetzin from back then.
The team’s extensive research led to the discovery of how the Rebbe and Rebbetzin actually received their visas to come to America. While studying some telegrams (provided by the Library of Agudas Chasidei Chabad) sent from the Previous Rebbe to the Rebbe, they noticed that one of them said “HIAS” on it.
Further research on what the “HIAS” meant led them to the HIAS headquarters in New York, where they discovered over thirty documents on the Rebbe and Rebbetzin’s flight out of war-torn Europe.
Valery Bazarov, the director of HIAS’s historical department, was interviewed for The Early Years, Volume IV.
Thanks to HIAS, the Rebbe and Rebbetzin received the priceless US visas and tickets out of war-torn Europe.
The DVD, which will be released in the coming weeks, is 75 minutes long, plus 15 minutes of bonus footage, and can be ordered here
if you actually read the article, you will see that they found 30 NEW documents not at the library, but at “HIAS” archive!
Amazing work from JEM, as always. Thanks for preserving what is so important to chabad and the world.
Actually it is a “big deal” most historic documents are held in libraries without anyone knowing what’s actually in those documents. you need teams of researchers to comb though those documents to discover what’s in them- even if they are in a library!
This is called a discovery? they found documents in a library. anyone can do that
