Dan Yosef “Don” Braham, a prominent member of Anash and an extraordinary Baal Tzedokoh in Australia, California and Florida, passed away on Friday night, 8 Shevat, 5777.
He was 87.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, where he was instrumental in building various Jewish institutions, Mr. Braham relocated to California in the early 1970’s where he was successful in the real estate business and became a strong supporter of Chabad activities throughout the State.
In these efforts, he was strongly encouraged, and ably partnered by, his beloved wife, Baila Shifra “Rebecca” Braham.
The Brahams’ philanthropic activities continued in the State of Florida where they relocated in 2007.
What set Don Braham apart from most other philanthropists at his level of giving was his absolute and non-negotiable insistence that there be no recognition whatsoever of his charitable deeds – be it in the form of awards, dinner tributes, or building dedications.
This commitment to the concept of “Matan Besaiser” extended to countless individuals down on their luck whom he helped inconspicuously and often anonymously through third parties.
Don Braham played a key role in an advisory capacity to many outreach and educational institutions, many of which he helped pull back from the brink of financial disaster.
In all matters, he was a warm, kind, compassionate, friendly, engaging and approachable Chosid, “Baal Chesed,” and gem of a human being who was passionately committed to the growth of Torah and Yiddishkeit in the manner envisioned by the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; brother, Mark; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
