A historic curfew has been imposed on New York City for tonight, and has been extended through Sunday.
The curfew, meant to curb the nights of looting and violence which have occurred in the city during protests against the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minnesota, begins at 8:00 pm and is in effect until 5:00 am.
Councilman Chaim Deutsch has informed that he has received many concerned calls regarding the curfew.
“I have been in touch with police officials to express concerns about the curfew limiting people’s ability to attend maariv or the mikvah. Cops will be instructed to allow for religious obligations and not issue summonses,” councilman Deutsch said.
Eli Cohen of the CHJCC informed COLlive that travel to work and appointments is permitted.
“The mayor’s order does not allow summons for breaking curfew unless the person is hanging out after being warned. If you are going from point a to point b you will likely not be challenged. We have suggested that Mikve should issue appointment letters for those who request it, just in case someone asks for proof of where they are going,” Cohen said.
Anyone who encounters problems in Crown Heights should immediately call Shmira 718-221-0303 for assistance.
This is crazy!!! Why isn’t the Mayor encouraging it? Does he not get that people’s lives are in danger? Does he EVER think?
They will ticket you.
If you are rioting – then no problem.
