Crown Heights resident Boruch Tzfasman, a self-taught woodworker, has created a one of a kind portable woodworking shop as his latest creative project.
Tzfasman is an AMSAT certified Alexander technique teacher, a technique of reorganizing patterns of chronic tension that have become a fixed part of how we move, breathe, and act in the world, and includes it as a wholesome approach of achieving vocal freedom.
Some of Tzfasman’s earlier projects included a portable Aron Kodesh which turned into Bima as well as a revolutionary Shtender Aron Kodesh that can be transformed into a Bima for reading the Torah, both praised by many for their ingenuity and craftsmanship.
Tzfasman has expanded his hobby, creating original woodworking projects which he designs and builds entirely by hand (see more of his original projects on his website).
Recently, Tzfasman had a brainstorm, “since woodworking is a hobby that I’d like to have, why not start off my hobbies with creating a full woodworking workshop that can be folded up and transported or put away when not in use?”
“I thought, even if I am not in a place with an official workshop, I can still have my hobby with me – a full workshop ready to work wherever I am,” Tzfasman says.
So he got to work to create a portable station that contains all the machines in it, which besides for offering easy mobility, also allows him to work in smaller spaces.
To take up less space, the workshop can be easily folded up and shrunk to a quarter of its size, allowing him to simply fold it up and put it in the trunk of a car.
“This was a big challenge, which took lots of motivation and patience to design and finish,” he says. “When I decided to build this workshop I didn’t have all the details figured out, I took a risk that it would work out. Now I look forward to making many more projects with this new workshop.”

Tzfasman’s other projects include a special wood Pushka, which he created at the request of several individuals seeking a beautiful charity box that could be affixed to a wall, to fulfill a directive of the Rebbe that every home contain a pushka attached to the wall, which will bring blessings to the home and its occupants.
“In this way, the entire house is transformed into a Tzedakah house, which as the Rebbe explains, brings tremendous blessings,” he said.
In time for Purim, Tzfasman has created an original and beautiful Shalach Manos gift package. The handcrafted Pushka is also the perfect gift for a Chosson and Kallah or Balei Batim. A great way of giving a handcrafted gift while bringing tremendous blessings to their homes. Also great as a hostess or housewarming present for home or Chabad House.

Beautiful work!
An eye for detail with beautiful wood put his work into a category of museum quality. His serious work ethic and excitement when working make each project a fine piece. I have been excited by his attitude as he was busy on many of his works of art. Keep up the great ideas. Tzvi Handler, now in Neveh Erez. Suburb of jerusalem.
