The Crown Heights Keilim Mikvah which has been closed for years has been renovated and will reopen in the near future.
The Mikvah Taharas Moshe, located in the alleyway at the former Sterling Electronics, now the location of Totally Her, on Kingston Avenue between Carroll and Crown Streets, was shut down a few years ago.
The original Mikvah was built years ago by the Sperlin family as a free community service in memory of their father, R’ Refoel Moshe Sperlin OBM.
Crown Heights resident Mendy Rendler has been arranging for the Mikvah’s repair, and says he is looking forward to reopening it in the next few weeks.
The old water has been emptied and cleaned out, and a new channel was built on the roof to collect the rainwater with new pipes leading to the Mikvah.
The Mikvah has also been painted inside, and the recent snowstorms have yielded new, fresh rainwater.
Rendler says the Mikvah will be using a credit card system in order to unlock the door to use the Mikva. “This will ensure people do not leave boxes and garbage or block the alleyway,” he says.
In the past, residents of the block complained about garbage and packaging being left in the alleyway, as well as cars blocking the alley while people got out to toivel their items.
In order to use the Mikvah, a $30 hold will be placed on the user’s card. The Mikvah is free to use for Keilim as long as the person follows the rules.
If the user parks their car in the alley, the person will be charged the $30, he says. If the user leaves items of packaging or other bags, boxes or other trash in the alley, or leaves the door unlocked, they will be charged a clean-up fee of $30 as well.

Who will be watching for these errors? Knowing who to charge?
Its called a security camera, if there is an issue they go back and check the footage.
Cheap people like you are always worried to be overcharged a few dollars
Where did you get cheap from? I’m clearly asking for enforcement and not the opposite.
What a great service for the community. Thank you!!
How can someone make sure others don’t take advantage of the mikvah open for their toiveling time? Then when something gets left, the depositor loses his deposit.
Also, will the area be inspected before and after each client?
If you think the person after you might leave their garbage or they parked their car blocking the driveway. Then have them wait till you’re done. Lock the door and let them use their credit card to open up the door again.
u cant wait ” even one second” whats wrong with you , i too am busy and i wait for school buses… garbage trucks… ambulletes..
as far as the garbage the mikva can charge $2 and it will take a goy 20-30 min to clean up of course people need to put their garbage in the can. but if you do the mitzva of having the mikva do it beshleimus .. i had a sukka in ch on montgomery & kingston and every chol hamoed morning i cleaned up for 10 min and was happy people used the sukka
This isnt correct. Not everyone has a credit card. How will you get the charge removed? Most people dont come with a car or boxes to toivel. I never did. Way too much to charge and poor people can never use it.
Too many people took advantage of the Mikvah. Unfortunately the only way the Mikvah will be able to stay open is if the area stays clean and the neighbors in the driveway can go in and out without having to wait even one second for someone using the Mikvah.
You can always try going to the stores in Kingston that have Mikvah.
i have a simple solution for you, open your own mikva
I live on the block that shares the aly and yes its very important to have the toiveling mikvah but people take advantage block the aly I’m trying to pull out to get my kids to school and they tell me wait I will be done in 2 minutes or 5 minutes just have respect park on kingston I know it’s hard to get a spot and the mikvah will remain open
appreciate it
maybe a dumper and big garbage cans should be next to Mikvah so pp have where to put their boxes and garbage there. There was no where to leave it till now, so it was left all over,
This is a simple solution, without having to look every time in the camera for who left stuff around.
I don’t think pp will leave stuff scattered around on purpose. If Big garbage cans are next to it, then i am sure the place can be kept clean without patrolling.
