Crown Heights residents were seen this week enjoying their free COLlive Tote Bags, distributed in several stores around the neighborhood.
New York State’s new law prohibiting stores from providing plastic shopping bags to customers takes effect in the near future. Many stores have already begun charging a fee for paper bags and have stopped providing plastic bags for customers.
COLlive.com, the community news service based in Crown Heights, has been distributing 2,000 reusable Tote Bags at select groceries and other stores around the neighborhood. They are being given free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis.
