Reuven Lipkind, a longtime Crown Heights resident who has been involved in communal affairs, is now throwing his hat into the ring and running for office.
Lipkind is running on Tuesday, September 13, to become a delegate of the New York Judicial Convention and residents of the 43rd Assembly District, which includes Crown Heights, are able to vote him in.
If elected to the convention, Lipkind will be one of the people choosing the supreme court candidates who will be on the general election ballot for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016.
“I decided to run for Judicial Convention Delegate because I understand the importance of electing the most qualified Judges to the New York State Supreme Court,” Lipkind told COLlive.com.
“Crown Heights will have a voice at the Convention to elect Judges this fall. Voting for Delegates is important because we are providing residents with a greater say in the matters that affect our neighborhood,” he added.
Backing Lipkind’s bid is New York State Senator Jesse Hamilton and his current employer. Hamilton endorsed him along with Deborah Cook, Evelyn Williams, Denise Mann, Geoffrey Davis, Davis Cunningham and Thelma David.
“I am proud to have worked with Reuven Lipkind for several years and have found him to be a man of integrity, compassion, and action,” Hamilton told COLlive.com ahead of the elections.
Living in Crown Heights for some 40 years now, Lipkind has always had an interest in serving the community. At the suggestion of his late friend Reuven Brenenson, he ran and served on the Neighborhood Area Policy board for 20 years.
At the insistence of the late activist Izzy Rosenfeld, Lipkind served 4 State Senators, including Marty Markowitz, Carl Andrews, Eric Adams and now Jesse Hamilton as his Director of Constituent Services.
As Gabbai in his synagogue, Congregation Bnai Solomon Zalman known as “Frankel Shul,” Lipkind initiated the weekly Father & Sons program. The program has flourished all over Crown Heights and is currently run annually in 3 or 4 locations from after Simchas Torah until Purim.
Hamilton said: “His solution-oriented leadership gets results and is exactly what we need to elect the most qualified Judges to the New York State Supreme Court. His strong work ethic and beyond-reproach reputation make him the ideal candidate for Judicial Convention Delegate.”
