During the funeral for Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenazi OBM, it was announced that his eldest son, Rabbi Meir Ashkenazi will be filling the position as Chief Rabbi of Kfar Chabad.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Gluckowsky, member of the Chabad Beis Din of Israel and Rav of the Chabad community in Rechovot, announced the decision of the Beis Din, in accordance with the Rebbe’s wishes that such matters should be dealt with “in a way of goodness and peace.”
The official announcement was made by Rabbi Yochanan Gurary, member of the Chabad Beis Din in Israel, who read the official letter and proclaimed “Yechi Harav Meir!” and ending with “Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov!”
Rabbi Meir Ashkenazi, who lives in Tzfas and serves as a Rabbi in the Yeshiva there, is the eldest of 9 sons of Rabbi Ashkenazi and son-in-law of Rabbi Dovid Meir Drukman, Rav of the community in Kiryat Motzkin.
