When a program like Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos grows beyond imagination, it’s time to come together.
“The success of the rapid growth is no secret,” says Rabbi Sholom Ber Baumgarten, Executive Director of the International Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos. “Each year, the children in Chidon look forward to an incredible reward. But it comes with a price of $370 a child which most parents can’t afford, especially with two, three or even four children participating.”
“It’s been an ongoing struggle,” says Rabbi Yerachmiel Benjaminson, Executive Director of Tzivos Hashem. “We see the success of the Chidon. Thousands of children who are so passionate give up their spare time to learn all 613 Mitzvos. Yet the price to keep it going has been simply unsustainable on our part. When we first started, we undertook the challenge to subsidize half the cost. But our budget has gone from about $30,000 to over $1.5 million this year.”
However, there’s a solution! With the Chidon Drive, we are confident that Chidon will continue to thrive. Chidon Drive is an opportunity for every family to have their own platform to raise money for the Chidon. What’s more, once you raise $270 for a child, you activate the generous $100 grant from Mr. George Rohr which allows that child to participate for FREE.
We have seen people run, bike, or swim to raise money for a worthy cause. Now, thousands of children are learning in their spare time and getting sponsored by their grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends and neighbors.
“This program has allowed Chidon to thrive,” says Director of Development Rabbi Sholom Loebenstein. “We could not have continued without this platform. This is the place where communities come together to support Torah learning while helping families who need the support and making sure no child is left behind.”
Please keep a lookout for people in your community and school to help out. Ask your principals to whom you can show your support. Together we can and will continue to grow and thrive.
“We have all seen the impact this program has had on our children and grandchildren,” says Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch. “The knowledge. The passion for learning in their spare time. It’s a program that has surely brought the Rebbe much nachas. Now is our chance to unite and keep this incredible movement thriving. Please go on to the Chidon Drive, find a family or friend and give whatever you can.”
