You might have to double check that kitniyos…
Jews ready to go back to enjoying a pita with smooth hummus spread, following the 8 day long holiday of Pesach, will need to read the label to make sure the contents aren’t deadly.
Sabra Dipping Co. has announced a national recall of some 30,000 cases of Classic Hummus because of the presence of potentially deadly listeria in several samples.
The Detroit Free Press reported that inspectors with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development learned of the possible contamination by listeria monocytogenes after a routine check on March 30.
The recall is limited to five stock unit, or SKU, numbers of Classic Hummus. No other Sabra product is affected at this time, the newspaper reported. To date, there are no reported cases of sickness.
In healthy individuals, listeria monocytogenes may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Detroit Free Press notes.
But it can cause serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, and it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, it added.
