As Davening plays a major role in the Yomim No’roim, Oholei Torah Mesivta bochurim were introduced to the world of Yom Tov davening from a well known chassidishe Chazzan, whose grandchildren are Oholei Torah Talmidim.
The Seder began with an enthusiastic call from Rabbi Zushe Wilhelm, menahel of the Mesivta, of the importance of davening in the Daled Amos of the Rebbe, and how much more so during Rosh Hashana.
Even if for whatever reason a talmid may not be able to daven all the tfillos, each tomim should make a point to be in 770 for at least one Tefillah.
Chazzan Mottel Berkowitz then addressed the talmidim, and gave an overview of the various Tefillos and piutim from the machzor.
With his clever wit, Rabbi Berkowitz opened the eyes of the bochurim, giving them a much deeper understanding and appreciation of the Yom Tov Davening.
Many Talmidim said that this shiur will most definitely have a strong impact on this year’s davening.

A chazan is focused on the quality of the sound produced, both in the vocal “manipulations” and the tunes(s). A piyut or an opera lehavdil get more or less the same treatment. A Baal Tfilla is focused on the Tfilla. The vocal animation and the tune (nusach) are vehicles for the prayer to Hashem. Some Baalei Tfilla are merirusdik (Czech-Hungarian style) some are ziess; and some are just plain hartzig.… Read more »
what? do you know how long he was a Chazan in 770?
its not a contradiction to have a little respect in lubavitch – his name is RABBI BERKOWITZ not “berkowitz”
and he is a chasedeshe yid and thinks before he talks unlike you!
Tell me mayvin, what makes you the expert on voices?? Unless you can out-chazan Rabbi Berkowitz.
What is the difference between a Chazan and a Baal Tefila??
Berkowitz is a great Baal Tefillah, but Chazan is really stretching it.
