Camp Gan Israel in the Poconos, run by Gershon and Devorah Sandler, has announce the head staff for summer 5774:
Assistant Director Fruma Wilschanski of Brooklyn, NY, brings over 10 years of camp leadership experience in Israel, Australia, Canada and across the U.S. She looks forward to ensuring the girls experience an unforgettable summer that is safe, fun and infused with Yiddishkeit.
Head Counselor Leah Polter of Monsey, NY, has been running programming for four years in various Gan Israel camps including Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Walnut Creek, California and Donetsk, Ukraine. She also served as Division Head in Camp Emunah in Greenfield Park, NY. Leah’s experience, enthusiasm and warmth will ensure that the campers are well cared for.
Ruchinyus Director Chani Spiero of Amsterdam, Netherlands, has six years of camp staff experience and was Head Counselor in Holland. Chani is excited about designing a learning program tailored to each and every camper’s needs.
Activity Director Sarah Ross of Matawan, NJ has been a head counselor in Connecticut and Georgia. She also served as Night Activity Director in Camp Pardes Chana and was On-Site Director at Tzeirei Kinus HaShluchos.
The camp’s newly acquired 83-acre campground will be home to some very lucky girls this coming summer. Camp Gan Israel in the Poconos offers unaffiliated Jewish girls a top-quality overnight camp experience in a beautiful setting.

My family and I just spent a glorious Shabbos at the newly renovated Camp Gan Israel in the Poconos. Of all my years in summer camp, I can’t quite remember a setting as serene and well cared-for as this. The cabins are warm, comfortable, homey, and clean!! There are charming little bridges connecting one area to another. The lake is dreamy, with an actual waterfall for all to see. Imagine falling to sleep to the sound of a real waterfall! The Sandlers hosted my family and 24 other families for a Shabbasown this past weekend. We were privileged to experience and explore the marvelous camp grounds while enjoying all of its wonderful amenities. The Sandlers spared nothing to make our stay exceptional and anticipated our every need, both material and spiritual. Our sleeping quarters were freshly painted with newly finished woodwork and renovated bathrooms and showers. We had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful camp for a Shabbos weekend. It was a great experience. The facilities are top notch, the ground are beautiful and the staff is awesome.
