Camp Gan Israel in Kalkaska, Michigan, has been approached by a donor who wishes to assist in the building of a new, state-of-the-art swimming pool.
Plans have already been drawn up and finalized and all permits are approved and in hand, notified Moshe Shemtov, Camp Director.
In the over 45 year history of the camp, this would be the first pool built on the property, as swimming was always done in the lake.
The donor has pledged more than half of the funds and has offered a matching gift option for the next two weeks (until Wednesday Tu B’Av 5769 – August 5, 2009).
Shemtov is inviting parents, alumni and friends to participate in this exciting project. There are many opportunities and levels available – and within the next two weeks each of those donations is automatically doubled, and will enable them to break ground and start this project this summer.
Participation opportunities
Friend $500
Supporter $1,800
Builder $5,000

Just to let everone know, that the Mosdos that rejected our children for finacial reasons….and believe me, we were ready to pay, just not top dollar….did not do well, and some went under…..but those who took us in…..had much better mazel……like I said, what goes around comes around……..

Keep up the amazing work!!
The best camp out there and we have been to all of the top 3 Chabad Boys Camps….so sorry for those of you who have not had this great experience!!! CGI Detroit is the best!!!!
thats just in the boys camp…
they definitely are generous on their oil…
I was a camper there one year. It was my best summer in camp ever. It far surpassed the other camps i was at. I could say they definitly spend much more money on their campers that other camps.
i find it so sad and depressing that people like #2 and #4 can make such comments. why do u need to be so negative and degrading? this world has enough of that!
How about air conditioners for the shul and A-frame???
When I was in camp at least 10 years ago their were raising funds for this so called “pool”, where did the money run off too? at least say the amount collected already!!!
Id like to try to point something out to you two! To #2: Im sorry that you couldnt afford camp rates and your children didnt get to expirience an amazing summer in this awesome camp, but the fact is: If you dont have the money, then they, obviousely, cannot except your kids. But just because this is unfortunately true, that doesnt mean they cant send you a single solitary email, requesting for your financial help in order to build this pool in the Rebbe’s camp for everyone to enjoy. And the pool isnt even ready for this year so you… Read more »
when i was going there 10 years ago they were selling tickets and raising money to build a pool – what happend to all the money?
Or is this just another way for them to make more $$$ then the thousands they take for the 1 month they have a camp there?
They’ve been collecting money for a pool for as far back as I can remember. I was a camper 19 years ago and they solicited my parents back then too.
After rejecting my children to the camp because I couldn’t afford the rate, about 13 years ago,(of course Montreal took us in a heartbeat), they still had the chutzpah to send us a letter requesting money to build a pool….what goes around comes around….it’s been 13 years and they haven’t been able to raise the funds yet.
its nice to see a dream come to reality.
