A career criminal was arrested over Yom Tov for breaking into a Jewish home in Crown Heights.
The incident occurred on Thursday Night, the 2nd night of Yom Tov, during Hakofos, at approximately 11:00PM at Lefferts Ave and Lamont Ct.
The burglar described as a black male, 45 years old, entered the backyard of the house and attempted to gain entry. A few minutes later, he successfully managed to enter a neighboring house.
Upon exiting the residence, he was observed by a neighbor who is a Shmira volunteer. He immediately called for assistance, at which time the perpetrator pulled out a gun and pointed it at the witness.
A few minutes later, the burglar was located in the area by Shmira members, and police soon arrived and placed him under arrest. He was caught with a number of tools and metal cutters with which he was able to break through locks and enter homes, Shmira volunteers reported.
Shmira then began searching for the gun and located it a short while later. Fortunately, it turned out to be a BB gun.
He was charged with 3 counts of burglaries, possession of burglar tools, and possession of a firearm.
This was not the only incident that occurred over Yom Tov.
