On Friday, August 16th, shortly after 12:00, Mrs. G, a local resident, was waiting outside Gan Yisroel Day Camp for her son to be dismissed, when she witnessed a bike being stolen in broad daylight. The Day Camp is using the Oholei Torah Mechina building, located at 417 Troy Avenue, between Montgomery Street and Empire Blvd.
A black male, approximately 5′ 7″ tall, who looked like he was in his early 20’s, wearing a dark blue T-shirt and blue jeans, approached a child’s bike that was locked to the railing, nearby. He broke the lock, stole the bike, and began riding the bike up Troy Avenue.
While he was trying to break the lock, Mrs G asked him why he was stealing, but he ignored her. She was intimidated and afraid he might attack her, so she did not speak him to him further. She immediately reported the event to the Head Counselor of the Day Camp and said that, regrettably, she is slow on her phone, and was very frightened, and so, she did not manage to capture a photo or video footage of the bikenapping.
Menachem V, the 11-year-old owner of the bike, came out and discovered that his bike missing, and told the camp staff, and then called his mother.
Mrs V called Shomrim, who said that they will examine the video footage, and told her to make a Police Report. Mrs V called 911 and made a Police Report.
Please be vigilant!
Please invest in a good lock, they cost about $50
Buy a good lock, it will buy you some time, or deter them from trying. Looks like this lock wasn’t so strong.
No one care about it.
You will waste your time doing police report.
And the police will never get it back or even open an investigation.
From experience.
I had a brake in in my car
I had the guys plate they came to do DNA test…
But nothing happened after.
They told me the person on the camera was the owner of the vehicle and they could go to his house or approach him but….
Nyc
Doing a Police report helps, that if they catch him they can file charges, if a report was never filed even if they catch him there isn’t much they can do
Sick !! Let’s fundraise to get this kid a new bike!!
I wonder how many times prior to this, this guy was arrested.
hi sorry to hear .. I am a real fan of trek bikes. make it as hard for a thief as possible with big huge u(D) locks or big chains. the lock i see in the photo I can cut in two seconds with a bolt cutter. theres lots of video out there about where and how to lock a bike up . the harder it is for a thief the longer it takes them and if its going to take too long they give up. you just made it childs play for the ganov.
People should learn how to make a simple phone call to Shmira /shomrim, and when you see something immediately call them and inform them of what’s happening. They. Could have so easily gotten there in time to catch the Rheinland rescued the kids bike.
I hope the owner gets it back
but i should mention that that’s a cheap lock for a bicycle like that
Yes first of all is to get a good lock second… I think it would have been better to call shmira or shomrim then head staff, but again in the moment things ARE different! So nu nu, but we need better community council that can avoid such things! United for moshiach!!
