Over fifteen bochurim got together this summer to fulfill the directive of the Rebbe to never take a vacation from learning Torah, by joining a yeshivas kayitz – summer yeshiva in London from after Tisha B’av until Rosh Chodesh Elul.
The program, beginning at 8:00 am and ending with Maariv at 10:00 pm, was held under the direction of Rabbi Chaim Rapaport.
The Yeshivas Kayitz was fortunate to have an outstanding Iyun shiur given every day by Rabbi Rapaport himself. The gemora learned was on the sugya of kidush b’mokom seuda and went from gemora – rashbam – tosafas right down until halocha l’maasa from today’s acharoinim.
Other Magidei shiur included Rabbi Leibish Heller from the Lubavitch Yeshiva Gedolah in London and Rabbi Y. D. Klein from kolel Chodosh in Manchester.
A shiur on a sicha of the Rebbe was also given at night by Rabbi Rapaport on the concept of shmira of a mezuza. There was also a two hour lunch break for recreational activities, when the bochurim played tennis, football and table tennis.
In the words of one of the bochurim, “It would have been very hard to go through the whole summer without the avir of a yeshiva, and I am very grateful to the organizers for the most “geshmake” summer I have ever had.”
