Early Wednesday morning, police officers arrived at the dormitory of the Chabad Yeshiva in Tzfas, and pulled a 19-year-old student from his bed.
The policemen, dressed in civilian clothes, entered the boy’s room, woke him, and arrested him in his pajamas.
According to eyewitnesses, only after he was taken outside of the yeshiva building, he was presented with an arrest warrant. He was arrested for being listed as AWOL from military service.
Activists dealing with similar cases said that this was the first time that a yeshiva student had been arrested inside the yeshiva, and that so far, in similar cases, they had avoided entering and carrying out arrests in the yeshiva area.
But then again, if not for draft enforcement, who would the army send into Ramallah?
if one wishes to stay in the country and illegally dodge the draft , then his shlichus will be with his fellow prisoners…
Charedi Jews lived in eretz yisroel for many many years way before there was a state or an army. Drafting them would be like drafting indigenous americans after everything the US did to them in its history.
I don’t understand anyone that agrees to him being arrested, because he is a so called draft dodger. I know I wouldn’t want to go into the army. i think everyone is being very insensitive! imagine his family right now! the children, parents, and all their relatives! instead of talking about what he should of done, have pity on this family, and on this chasidishe boy sitting in jail, not being able to do mitzvah, or learn torah!!!
This was just an excuse to cover up his indictment on corruption & other charges what better way to Arrest a Bachur learning in Yeshiva early in the morning like he was a huge criminal in The Mafia or something!!

As if this bochur was actually learning in yeshiva. I know what goes on there and in all other yeshivas. 10% of the kids learn, and the other 90% don’t do anything. I bet they woke up the boy at 3pm! I think the army would be great for most yeshiva boys. give them some discipline.
Where is the security? U can’t let anyone in, without an ID and warrant on the name… i feel bad, today is the army police but tomorrow who knows.
The Rosh Yeshiva must be aware of all “ariks” and take care of it and provide legal help for these bohrim.
Now, there is no exemption anymore and bochurim can only get a postponement, these bochurim don’t even go to the משרד הגיוס to get a postponement, and then complain when they get into trouble. I’ve seen countless chassidishe guys in army uniforms after they’re married, you have to respect the law, and the Rebbe never said otherwise.
To #9, there is a way to get out of the army or receive a “patur” and the student didn’t. Hundreds of other bochurim managed just fine.
My husband learned in yeshiva, then he went to learn a year in 770 (kvutza), something Israeli bachurim have been doing for over 40 years. Eventhough he had a student visa, just the fact that he was out of Israel for over 6 months, he lost his status as a yeshiva student. Which means when he came back to Israel at age 21, before his wedding, according to you and the Israeli army he was supposed to enlist. Isn’t there a way for a person to refuse to serve if need be, like fear of fighting, or some other reason? I’m not well versed, but i think i remember learning that the Torah allows for a person to leave a war if he can’t take it. If that is the case, i don’t think it proper to reveal the name of the bochur, might be loshon hara. May Hashem bless all our brave chayalim and send us Moshiach now!
