Today my son was spared a possible serious head injury because he was wearing a bicycle helmet.
He was riding his bike in the park and swerved trying to avoid hitting a child that ran into his path. He stopped short to break and was thrown off his bike. I could see from the crack in the helmet how hard he fell. Boruch Hashem, he was wearing it!
Friends, I see too many children, teens and adults riding bikes and scooters, roller blading, all without wearing helmets.
As parents, it is our responsibility to make sure that before our children go out to do these activities that they put on properly fitting helmets. As adults, you need to use your own common sense and realize how you need to protect yourselves.
I am happily signing my name to this letter so I’m not just another anonymous person on a rant.
Have a safe and healthy summer,

I of course agree 100%. My kids are all grown and I always am in fear of a tragedy because they refuse to wear helmets while cycling. I often see people, mostly children, that are wearing a helmet, but it is not adjusted correctly for their head. It looks similar to how a bochur will wear his hat perched as far back as possible on his head such that a millimeter farther back and it will fall off. The problem is that worn like that, not only does helmet not protect the head properly, it actually make things worse. When… Read more »

Now thats using your head!
Parents, please insist your children wear helmets when they go out on bike or scooters. I can’t tell you how often I see children riding with no protection and it scares me. It makes it harder for me to enforce it with my children because they see so many children riding without.
wear helmets when they are scooting
If you don’t have something smart to say….
There’s a phenomenal store right here in our neighborhood
CH CYCLES . They have all types of cool helmets that adults and kids will love. The service is a great too!
I myself had two incidents on a road bike at high speed and i do not want to imagine what could have happened had i not worn a good helmet.
I did get some small injuries both times but B”H my head was protected

Bike riding can be done an equally tzanua manner as walking. Just remember if a female rider happens to cross your path, keep your eyes where they belong.
PS. In Kfar Chabad many men bike ride to Shul. Including respected elter chassidim.
I was in a serious road cycling accident wearing a helmet, with my head hitting a stone wall. Even with my helmet, I fractured my skull, broke my frontal bone and orbital socket. Without it my brains would have been strewn everywhere.
But hey, maybe idiots who don’t want to wear helmets shouldn’t – it will help us eliminate idiots from the population…
Shut the hell up and go be a chassid in a cave somewhere. Now people cant ride bikes. YA maybe they should not be done whatever. You are probably just a lazy bum who is jealous of people exercising
What is not tznius about it?
safety first
Thanks for being brave and posting your name! It definitely gives your words more power
Even if you don’t think it is necessary, it really could save yours or someone’s life one day like here! Thank you for sharing this!

My son was knocked down down by a car pulling out of a driveway. When I went to the bike shop to replace his helmet(something that is recommended once u are involved in an accident) and brought the old one in for size . After showing the helmet to the vendor he took on a very serious tone and asked and how is the young man recovering from his injuries. My response , he is in school😀Helmets save lives !!!
Yes, wear a helmet and make your kids wear on too. I used to race mountain bikes and road bikes in Vermont. There were some very strong riders there, even Olympic level. One rule whenever we used to out to ride, SAFETY FIRST – WEAR YOUR HELMET. Many of us fall at one point or another. Add the city into the equation – carsl, people, other hazards – and there is no question every single biker needs a helmet. A fedora is not a helmet, sorry. Please, take it from someone who has ridden fast and furious, and fallen too,… Read more »
