Good morning,
Yesterday someone called my house phone. He had a heavy Indian accent and claimed that he was calling to alert me that the Windows system on my computer was at threat.
He did not say what company he was calling from other than that he was calling about the Windows operating system. I asked him which computer he is calling about being that we have several computers, he said that all the computers use the same server.
He tried to get me to go into the computer and follow his instructions. If my computer was at threat, then it was him that was the threat.
He called from 100-3449 (if you Google that number, you will see others have had the same number call them and the same thing).
I thought you may want to let people know. I did file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Happened to me shortly after I got a new computer 3 1/2 years ago.
several times, Indian accent, was becoming more and more insistent,”go open your computer now..” “you must use Microsoft technician..” your computer will crash tomorrow morning”. I said “I’ll just wait till tomorrow” and he also mumbled something angrily
Also got that Indian call. I don’t have a computer, but I played along as if I did. “So, what must I do?” He said to click on whatever it was he said to do. Then I said,”Hey. I’m getting this message that there’s a b…gr in the system shorting out the circuitry.” “huh.” So, I repeated it. Then, he must have got someone else on the phone to help him understand what I was talking about. I asked,”Do you know what a b…gr is?” He said,”yes.” “What is it?” in a very low voice, I heard him say,”This guy’s… Read more »
Multiple times a day. Heavy Indian accent and telling me about some danger to my Windows computer. I finally lost it and told I don’t have any Windows computers, only Mac!
By all means you must ensure you have malware software on your system. make sure your firewalls are reliable. Best wishes
Don’t open those pop up’s
My computer keeps sending me messages, that my Windows are Counterfeit and not genuine, and that I should click on Support to correct it. Also, that my Emails are not private, and my screen goes black. I also get calls from Idia and Microsoft, telling me, that I have been hacked into, and for a fee, through a Robot, with me at my computer, it can be corrected. Who does one complain too?
When I asked the guy if he was from Microsoft, the line went dead. I knew it was a scam.
rule of thumb never ever give any personal information over the phone even if the call sounds legitimate or the company name comes up on the caller id. Anyone can make the caller id come up as a specific name
My wife clicked on a link the came from a friends email address, very ligit looking. Link took here to a Google login page… also very ligit looking. She entered her email and password, nothing happened when she clicked login. She called me and asked me to come help her out. I right away sniffed out a phishing scam, 2 red flags were raised: 1) this friend didn’t email her in years, whey all of a sudden would she send a file, 2) the address in the browser bar went to lol.ru.google. something I don’t remember the rest. Anyways it… Read more »
I have had several of these calls, and I know it’s a scam. I play dumb and lead them along. After a while when they tell me to open something I say i’m on an Apple computer. They then hang up.
No one can see into your computer to see if there is a virus. Also, never allow them to get inside.
My guy claimed he was calling from Tech Support America and that I can look them up. I told him you could be a phony company with a phony website. Or you could be claiming you are from that company, when you aren’t. Everything’s possible. I let him spend time with me and lead him on until he wanted me to enter a code, and that’s when I told him I would not do that and thus jeopardize my id on my pc. He still tried to convince me more. Told him I would get back to him if I… Read more »
I asked him where he is calling from and he said Texas, I said oh that’s funny cuz I bet your calling from India……BANG!!
I have had this scam three times. They tell me they’re from Dell, they see I have a problem, and for a fee they can fix it. The first time I almost fell for it, since I just recently had my computer serviced with my Dell support plan. When I told Dell what had happened, they were very familiar with the scam. The next two times it happened, I recognized the scam right away. Absolutely do not given them access to your computer!
They called me as well and I took the opportunity to give them a taste of their own medicine… :D. Held him in the phone for w good 15 min. “Following his every instruction” he eventually realized and I had the last laugh! 🙂 lol!
I had the same call a few weeks ago. next time they call I will say I don’t have a computer
I told him that he can’t seriously think I would fall for this & hung up. But even worse, I have had bright blue “Windows”
warnings actually come on my screen telling me to call a certain number to rescue my computer. I almost fell for it – Don’t call & just get rid of that image if it pops up.
Do not I repeat do not open attachment you don’t know where it’s coming from
My daughter’s MAC had a pop-up called “Mac cleanup” or something like that. It purported to clean up all Mac issues. Since her computer was running slow, she clicked on it…. Well, it was a BIG virus. She called the 800 # listed for Mac support, and spoke with an Indian guy who informed her that for $100, they would give her Tech Support for a year. She happily paid……..Well, that was ALSO a scam, and they Royally messed up her computer! 🙁 …. She finally went down to the Apple Store where they spent a few hours reconfiguring her… Read more »
very useful info
We get these calls in England as well, I tell them I don’t have any computers or laptops. The phone line the goes dead.
Thanks for the alerting of potential threats. The more people
are aware of this the better.
Microsoft never calls anyone. Anytime anyone calls you and ask you for personal information or to download something it should automatically raise a red flag.
we live in a jungle
I had the same thing at the office. I said one moment please, let me put our IT guy on the phone with you. he said, no, you can help me. I got suspicious and told him to hold on. he hanged up
I was getting these calls multiple times a day…
