carrection, abaya said in all of his master’s(rabbah bar nachmani, abaye’sTEACHER)affairs he acted in accordance with rav with the exception of these cases(one of them the case of chanukah)where he acted in accordance with shmuel that we may kindle from one light to another….(shabbos 22a)

What you wrote is incorrect; The Halacha is like Shmuel only in monetary matters, NOT Be dinim.

The banquet with the varied crowed present isn’t the time nor place for Halachik disscsion. What the Chief Rabbi obviously meant, was that although Hilchsoh k’Rav Bissurim, there are 3 exceptions, Neiros Chanukah being one of them. I think the Rabbi knows his stuff and his crowed.

I am proud to be British, but more importantly than that I am inspired.

Inspired by the Chief Rabbi to be a lamplighter even though that is not my ‘day job’, inspired to have more Ahavas Yisrael for every single Jew, to learn more Chassidus and apply it to my life, and to passionately want all that the Rebbe so vehemently wanted.

For this I must thank the Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks.

Rav and Shmuel in the Chief Rabbi's speech
November 28, 2011 6:51 pm

I think the chief rabbi’s speech was impressive, although halachically he has been mistaken regarding like who we pasken when there is a machlokes between Rav and Shmuel in the Gemara. He mentioned in his speech that only in few places the halacha is like Shmuel, that’s not correct. The proper guideline is: halacha ke Rav be Isurim ve Halacha ke Shmuel be Dinim. I think it’s important to set the record straight especially regarding halacha.

BH.....his future
November 28, 2011 3:18 pm

He has worked so hard for so many years as chief rabbi. Now that he’s leaving his post I can’t wait to see what his future projects behold. He’s done the books, he’s given the talk….I don’t know what, but it’s going to be big.

November 28, 2011 1:20 pm

WOW!! This has given me such fuel to add in my Hiskashrus to the Rebbe and his teachings. I agree with #3…they should show this to all the high schools. Usually, whenever there is a kinnus for a Chassidishe Yom Tov (especially with women) only Adult women join and benefit from the inspiring chizuk laden talks. I went to one last night in an out of town city which was amazing… and only women were there…what about the high school girls. They should watch this video and they will surely walk away with a renewed energy in the ways of… Read more »
