Young married couples came together at Chabad on Campus – Queens, for a pre-Purim Hamanstashen baking contest on Thursday March 17.
Split into two teams, husbands vs. wives they were judged on creativity, presentation and taste. The groups were supplied with recipes to choose from and a wide array of ingredients from peanut butter to blueberry jam, caramel and sandwich cookies.
While the men dove right into the competition, the women took a more relaxed approach tasting a number of select kosher wines, provided by Suhag Wines & Liquor. Each team made two batches of hamatashen; brownie peanut butter, birthday cake, streusel topped and cookies and cream.
The evening was sponsored by Shmuel and Perel Saklad. As a QC student, Perel served as vice president of the Chabad club and was thrilled to come back in this capacity. “It was like old times,” she said.
“As alumni get married and stay local in Queens, we feel it’s crucial to maintain those relationships and we love bringing young couples together,” said Tzipah Wertheimer Co-Director of Chabad on Campus – Queens.
Though the judges also chose winners by category, the overall hamantash champion was the cookies and cream stuffed hamantash. Winning never tasted so good.
