Chess piece - the KING

In my house, the home I grew up in, it was always customary to remove the cross on top of the king in chess games (we had more than one, and had one set special for Shabbos play as we were instructed should be done).

I notice in the picture above the cross on the king. Even if it does not look exactly like a cross, it is usually meant to be a cross and should be removed. l

When I was in Junior High School (early 70’s, now it’s called “middle School”), I was on the chess club – most of the guys were Jewish.
