Two special events recently took place at the reopened Obuda Shul in Budapest, Hungary, run by Chabad Shluchim.
A chupah was set up in the park in front of the 190 year old pillars that have not seen such an event in 50 years. The entire community was drawn to the joyous wedding of Esther and Andrew Bock.
The wedding was performed by Rabbi Sholom Hurwitz, the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah Budapest and the Head of the Budapest Bet Din and Head Shliach, Rabbi Boruch Oberlander.
Rabbi Shlomo Koves, the rabbi and spiritual leader of the Obuda Shul was in close contact with the couple throughout their preparations, however he could not be present at this special occasion as he was representing Hungary at the Kinus Hashluchim in New York that weekend.
Just a few days before the wedding took place the first brit milah in the Shul since its reopening. It was performed by Rabbi Koves who is also a mohel.
“Baruch Hashem, in addition to the regular services, the shul is enlivened by simchas and other happy occasions as well,” we were told.
While in New York at the Kinus, Koves personally extended his appreciation to Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky and George Rohr for their assistance and generous donation towards the Obuda Shul.
Without their assistance this historic project could not have taken off, he noted.
