Following the deadly terror attacks in Jerusalem and throughout Israel, Hebron withstood several attempted attacks and became one of the IDF’s main centers of attention.
While all of the local Hebron attacks were averted, thank G-d, Kiryat Arba resident and friend of Chabad of Hebron, Asher Hasno, was murdered south of the city in a terrorist rock attack ambush.
Following the attacks, investigations revealed that a large percentage of the terrorists killed or apprehended in Israel this month had a connection with Hebron. With Hebron’s identification as the front lines in this recent war against terror, hundreds of IDF reinforcements began pouring into the holy city.
Chabad Shliach in Hebron, Rabbi Danny Cohen, also sprung into action, directing his outreach team to increase their supportive efforts among the soldiers to keep up with the influx and increased number of checkposts and stations.
“Our efforts with the soldiers is a big part of the work we do here in Hebron,” said Cohen. “We’re literally supporting, encouraging, strengthening, and appreciating the very soldiers who go out and stop terror attacks and secure Jewish lives.”
Chabad of Hebron recently hosted a massive BBQ appreciation and support event for 440 soldiers, featuring live music and dancing.
For the upcoming Shabbos Chayei Sara, with its special message and connection to Hebron and Me’arat HaMachpela, Rabbi Cohen will be on hand as usual to celebrate with residents, soldiers, and guests.
Immediately following Shabbos, he’ll fly to New York and join the already underway Kinus HaShluchim in New York, and thousands of his fellow Shluchim from around the world.
Hebron is traditionally packed on Shabbos Chayei Sarah. Efforts are underway to encourage guests and inspire participation. All are welcome to join in and fight the darkness of terror with light.
