Cold hearted people in London
January 15, 2019 10:00 am

Bsd
The same cold hearted BRITs would condemn a poor Jewish person who lived in the pale of settlement but couldn’t make a living so he went against the Russian law and went to work outside the pale of settlement where there were more opportunity for people with know how like himself. If he was caught by the çarist police and sentenced by a çzarist judge they would probably condemn him for adding anti-Semitism excuses to the czar and his ministers.

I think your comment itself requires further investigation. As you claim he was not charged for the illegal immigration as it was deemed insignificant next to the financial “fraud” that occurred. However, as far as i am aware, he was acquitted of those charges as they had no basis to stand on and as a result the prosecutors went fishing through his financial records to try and catch him on something

As I see it

I see it differently. We live near the Rubashkins, followed the story closely and support him 100 percent. I dont follow much news and the details of the story were irrelevant to me. What I do know is who he is and how strong be remained in prison. His lessons and speaking engagements are focused on how strong he remained even while incarcerated. Can you (I certainly cant!) Imagine being in a prison for 8 years and not watching television once?!?!?! Can you imagine having the level of faith he did on a minute to minute basis?!??! So, while the… Read more »

There is no doubt that Rubashkin wasn’t perfect. He was human. The question is whether his MO was a collective bundle of criminal conduct. If it was, it was barely. Rubashkin’s business was a legit enterprise, not a crime syndicate (certainly not systemic criminal conduct), which at worst if there were criminal mistakes made, it was in style, not fundamental to the business, which deserved probation at worst. Giving him time was draconian and sentencing him to 2.7 decades behind bars was hyper draconian. When someone sat 9 years longer than he should have, it makes him a victim, not… Read more »

Lubavitch london
January 15, 2019 12:37 am

None of the local lubavitch schools, yeshivas or shuls are inviting rubashkin to speak or farbreng. This is for fear of “what others will say and think, and the wealthy and powerful secular Jews will slander lubavitch and stop their funding”.
There have been other events here inviting rubashkin with packed halls, hardly any Chabad. Mostly the chassidishe oilam.

Great article and thank you

This is a very well written article and brings out some excellent points, thank you for sharing!

Ysher Koach.

Thank you Rabbi Shochet.
January 14, 2019 6:46 pm

I’m most appalled how many of the Jewish people in London have reacted to Rubashkins coming, where he will be speaking etc……..Unfortunately amongst them so called ‘Lubavitchers’ – even if they may be the ones trying to run Lubavitch of London.
BH there is a Rabbi in London who is talking with his head screwed on.
Kol hakovod.

Brilliantly written

That’s very courageous!!!!

Didn’t answer the question.

I think the response is reflective of “community syndrome”- a not uncommon thought that the “orthodox” represent the majority of the Jewish population. The majority (or greater majority) of Jews would not see his freedom in such light as the community, and it is not truly such a joy for all Jews, as claimed. It’s known, and undisputed- surely also by Frank, that the sentence was over zealous. I’d also agree that HaGomel is said, and a seudat hoda’ah made, even a year after, on the anniversary. I also believe that there is humility, in that it was all mesirut… Read more »
