A new study center is opening its doors Monday night in Crown Heights with the goal of being a center for Torah and Chassidus learning in the after-work hours.
The Beis Medrash, as it will be called, is located in the Crown Condos at 580 Crown Street, using the same hall used for the Shabbos-shul Bais Ohel Nosson.
Directing it will be Rabbi Motty Lipskier, son of the beloved Maggid Shiur in Morristown, NJ, Rabbi Fitzy Lipskier OBM, who told COLlive.com he will be available to learn in Chavrusa and answer questions in learning.
The official grand opening will take place on Motzei Shabbos Parshas Vayechi, December 18. But until then, there will be a series of shiurim given on the topic of Chanukah.
Lipskier said the center will provide “a warm and welcoming environment with a comprehensive learning program which caters to Anash of all backgrounds.”
“After a day’s work, nourish your soul, by participating in any of our options. Choose from our nightly classes on topics ranging from basic Hebrew reading skills to advanced Gemara. Or pair up with a chavrusa and learn at your own pace,” he wrote in a press release.
The co-founders of this initiative are telecommunications expert Golan Ben Oni and Rabbi Mendel Lerman, founder of Bais Levi Yitzchak – often seen as a Chabad House in Crown Heights.
Mentioned as “rabbinical advisers” were Rabbi Yosef Heller, head of the Crown Heights Kollel and Rabbi Shloma Majeski, principal of Machon Chana Women’s Institute.
Lipskier’s wife Chanel (nee Deitsch) said that following the passing of her first cousin – Virginia Shliach Levi Deitsch OBM – her husband approached the family and received their blessings to dedicate the organization in his memory.
Hours are Sunday-Thursday from 7-10 PM. Refreshments will be served, sponsored by the Gordon family in loving memory of Shabsi Gordon ob”m.
While philanthropist David Slager has donated seed money towards the launch of the center, donations are being asked for books, bookcases, a framed picture of the Rebbe, a desktop computer and a printer. To donate (tax deductable) click here

There is no hasagas gevul when it comes to Torah. That being said, I’m wondering is this meant to fill a need that Levi Browd’s Yagdil Torah beis medrash is not filling?

There are many lamdonim living in the crown condo complex why not hire some to assist in learning.
