My Dear Friends & Neighbors,
Thank you for joining me tonight, together with my esteemed colleagues, all running for a seat in the Vaad Hakhol. I am pleased to see that there is a positive move to clear up the internal politics and strife that has been eating away at our community for so many years.
My view of a member of the VH is someone who is committed to the Khal, without any outside agendas. I will be here to serve you, as a member of the Crown Heights Jewish Community. I don’t care what your last name is, where you came from, or if you had grandparents in Russia. A VH member needs to be someone who is committed with all their heart to serving the community, and doing things in the best interest of the community, NOT themselves. A member of the VH shouldn’t be based on what your last name is, how much money they have, or how many photo opportunities you manage to rack up over the course of their position. We need people in office who take action, now more than ever.
I don’t need to tell you about the challenges we are facing with our schooling, kids at risk, and Tznius – to name just a few. In my opinion, a lot of these issues are caused by two root causes. Lack of Ahavas Yisroel, and a lack of the schooling system injecting Ahavas Hashem and a love for Yiddishkiet into our children. Ahavas Yisroel I will approach, along with my fellow VH board members, by bringing the community together in community wide inspirational events, publications and social services such as a new gym. We will work hard with the schools on acquiring government funding for teacher training courses, and help cover the cost of extra-curricular activities for the children.
We don’t need to look far to neighboring communities such as Williamsburg, where they manage to work together B’Lev Echad in regards to securing government assistance wherever possible, for those who are most worthy. The housing situation in our community is at a critical point, and we need to relieve this pressure by securing whatever we can in assistance from local officials. We plan to get together with our friends in Williamsburg, to learn from them, and to improve the programs we are able to secure.
One of the most painful points which I wish to discuss, is the lack of a unified Bais Din for our residents. A Torah community cannot function without it. I propose to resign all members of the Beis Din, and have fresh elections, overseen by an outside election body who will be brought in for this.
Finally, due to the nature of the Community Council being a community organization, elected by the community, we will have an open book policy. Anyone at anytime will be welcome to request our latest financial statements which will be compiled by an outside auditor every six months.
Let us take back our community. We can achieve tremendous things by working together – B’Yachad, B’Achdus.
Yours,
The Candidate
i agree with 32
by the segal elections there also was a Rov saying DO NOT VOTE!
did you hold of those elections?
dont just say your name (that i do respect), say what you held and hold!
a name means nothing if we cant judge you.
did you say the same thing by the fake elections for rabbonim???
all of a sudden you become a tzadik and say “lets not take sides”, because that is your party line this time around!
last time you were screeming “a Rov said we should vote!”, and didnt really care about “going against a rov.. and showing our kids… blah blah balh”
your just a regular politican/fony/player who twisest everthing, and uses both sides of the coin
The vaad hakol is more to deal with any outside officials as representatives of CH not to take care of what is happening inside the shcunah. So can someone explain exactly what he’s trying to say?
WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS FOR???
Take a minute and think about what you want to accomplish.
Now talk
One this IS for sure. That whoever participates in elections for “Gaboyim” in 770 – is CLEARLY going against the Rebbes wishes. 770 does not belong to CH – it’s under Agudas Chasidei Chabad. Befor Gimmul Tammuz the Rebbe revoked the elections then. But now – people do as they please and FORGET that we still have a rabbe..!
For all the people scared to put their name, I’m not. What I want to say is as follows with all the garbage going on between the Rabbonim for the past five years and now a Rav saying clearly DO NOT VOTE whoever goes and votes is telling their family and children I know better then a Rav!!!!! The Chutzpa for those to then say that the rebbe would also not agree with the Rav they should ask the Rebbe for Mechila with a minyan!
Zabla and/or resignations are not going to happen in this case for various reasons. The way to “force them to resolve their differences” is dilute their individuel powers by adding additional rabonim. With this done they can overcome the impasse and a rabbinical consenseus can be reached. In batei dinim and other matters RO can work with the two chavrei BD he chooses to form a psak din. RS can do the same with two chavrei BD of his choice. This is why I voted for the three newer rabonim when those elections were held. Contrary to what some people… Read more »
…this is a joke! He wants to see achdus in the community. Well, start with the Rabbonim. The only thing that makes sense from this piece is getting rid of all them & starting again with new, fresh people who are respectful, considerate, & open to the community they will serve.
He calls himslef a candidate, makes all these promises and does so anonimously.
How spinless is that! He doesn’t get my vote!
If he wrote his name, COL would probably charge him to post a self propaganda article. It would probably be considered as an advertisement. By posting an anonymous op-ed, it goes up for free and the point is made.
we need new elections for rabbonim. we need rabbonim who people respect. the rav/rabbonim make a bais din look like a circus.
we have to demand of each candidate to undergo a psychiatric
evaluation, IQ test, criminal and credit check, and only if all of the above will come back positive, can a candidate put up his name for the eelctions.
Who ever saw any books with any previous VH?
We want to have elections we have to have serious NORMAL candidates, not a bunch of clowns .
this election is a joke, have u seen the list of candidates?, one in paticular that is preaching a friendly face, he has a store in CH without a hechsher for years, has assulted and insulted many people inside and outside his store, is involved in a major family dipute with his father, and is known as a wild manand big mouth, are this the kind of peolle u want to represent you?, wake up people this wholl elections is beeing driven by people with certain interests, and there is nothing in common between them and the good of the… Read more »
Its nice to see that “someone” cares whats good for the community. you want to look at williamsberg or Boro Park they got the government to clean each road only ones a weeks instead of 2 times in most of CH or on eastern pkwy everyday. why don’t you get the government to take away street cleaning at least for shabbos so Jews could find parking before shabbos and not park 2 blocks away that would be Greatly oppreatioated or get the roads fixed like Kingston ave. between eastern pkwy and union ever fell on the tracks there ? I… Read more »
the closed book policy of M. Rubashkin (no one saw the books for 4 years!!) was the final push towards the two Netzigim groups.
i hope that an open book policy will finally bring them together
Anonymous sounds good, but many of the people who are actually running also seem to have their heads screwed on straight. I’m optimistic that the we will finally get some good people in.
why are we punshied
why are our children punshed
why are we punshing ourself
please i beg all of you just stop already look how much we lost
elections? (two or one or none)
rabonim? (two or three sets)
community? (fragmented)
and some people continue the facade as if there is one community with its rabbonim, and council.

We can’t ‘make’ ll the current Rabbonim resign. That is heipech torah and aginst the Rebbe’s directives. We have to force the Rabbonim to resolve their difference through an independent 3rd party. Both Rabbonim have to agree to come to a Zablo where each one can choose their own dayan and the dayyanim chose the 3rd dayan. One of the Rabbonim refuses to come to a din torah summoned by the other Rov finding fault with the dayyanim. Why can’t he agree to a Zablo?
Why are poeple in this neighborhood so worried about writing names and not writing names?
I suggest all those wanting the authors name, look up what “hypothetical” means, as mentioned in the intro to this op-ed. The author is not running, so why do you need his name? It is here to provide food for thought.
This is not Soviet Russia. If you can’t put your name, don’t run. The lack of accountability in this community is astonishing, and anonymous letters are symptomatic of that…
It says hypothetical, which means this is not a real candidate, he is merely writing as if he is one, simply to bring up some good points, which he did. If someone like this were really running, i’d vote for them for sure (except that im not a ch-er, so i dont think my vote counts 🙁 )
It looks like CH is learned from the mainstream political structure, all those in power and running are corrupt and the good ones are hypothetical
and i believe in the tooth ferry
people be real
this current election is only to create more strife by dividing the community further with all these candidates taking one of the rabonims side
stop listening to fantasy lets get real here we need first to get the rabonim to straighten out their differences
we cannot force them to resign and make new elections
that was tried and one ruv gives out a letter against this one and that one a letter against that one
I thought Rabbi Osdoba said that is is no elections? What is coming off?
I could not find a better title. Everything that the person writes is seriously lacking. You talk about about williamsburg as a community with out annymosity – let me tell you it has more than we do. You speak about getting our act together – they have over 12,000 voters. They fill up much more than one community board. We barely have enough registered voters to hit 2,000. I guranty you if we even had 8,000 voters it would look a lot better. So before you point a finger know the facts. And BTW this very article is a serious… Read more »
please let us know – we’d like to vote for you!!!!!!!!
“we will have an open book policy” you cant write your name but you will show the books?????
anonymous or not, he brings up some interesting points.
this all sounds good but if you dont put your name we dont know who to vote for
and as comment 1 said be bold and put your name
Why are you scared to put your name?
