Once again the capital city of London hosted a beautiful and successful Mitzvah tank parade in honor of the Rebbe’s birthday.
This past Sunday, the parade of 8 Mitzvah Tanks started at the Lubavitch Yeshiva on Kingsley Way. The tanks passed through Hendon and Golders Green, attracting much positive attention and excitement from the frum community who watched it passing by.
Each tank was fitted with a public PA system playing Jewish music and was decorated on the outside with signs encouraging the observance of Mitzvos. The parade then moved on to Central London, passing by Parliament Square, the London Eye and crossing Westminster Bridge. Here, once again the people on the street enthusiastically greeted the procession with waves and smiles.
After the beautiful Kiddush Hashem and large amount of publicity, each tank continued on to its individual destination. The tanks were then stationed in Borehamwood, Baker St., St Johns Wood, Hampstead Heath, Golders Green Rd, Finchley Central, West Hampstead and Temple Fortune.
At each of these places, the Yungeleit and Bochurim spent the rest of the day laying Tefillin, helping people sell their Chometz and distributing over 1,000 hand-baked Matzos to people who would otherwise not have Shmura Matzo at their Seder.
Many a passerby curiously asked what the excitement was all about and word of the Rebbe’s birthday with the upcoming Yom Tov has now spread far and wide across London.
