35,000 Jews spent Shabbat in Chevron, commemorating the Torah reading this week which relates how the Patriarch Avraham bought Me’arat Hamachpela (the Cave of the Patriarchs) from Ephron the Hittite for 400 coins.
The streets of Kiryat Arba and Chevron filled with tents and portable caravans, and over 3,000 Jews enjoyed Shabbat meals at a tent erected for the purpose by Chabad.
Among the visitors were Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home), Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel (Likud), Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin (Likud), Deputy Defense Minister Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan (Jewish Home), MKs, rabbis, public figures, and guests from Israel and abroad.
Border Police, Shabak (Israel Security Agency), Israel Police, and the IDF’s Judea Brigade secured the event, ensuring order and protecting the safety of participants.
Chabad of Chevron Shliach Rabbi Danny Cohen said, “Chabad has always seen great importance in standing with the Jewish community of Chevron. We are very happy to be holding the largest Shabbat meal in the world beside Me’arat Hamachpela, together with the thousands of Jews visiting Chevron for Shabbat.”
This was my 5th time in Chevron for Chayei Sara. Biggest and best ever! Yasher Koach to Danny & BatSheva and their staff.

It pains me to think of the sounds Yitzchak Avinu and Rivka Imenu hear daily. One day it will be entirely in our hands, without compromise, without sharing it with our lovely cousins, and our avot and imahot will rise and lead us to the har habayit, upon which the current eyesore will be replaced with the beit hamikdash, the missing crown jewel of Yerushalayim. The borders to our holy land will be as originally promised, and the holy Jews of Yehuda and Shomron will be appreciated by all, even the most self-hating Jewish kisser of terrorists. Let us do… Read more »
