Two babies in Israel contracted a rare strain of bacterial meningitis in the past two weeks after the parents neglected to have them vaccinated.
The babies were infected with the Haemophilus influenza b bacteria, which once was one of the most common causes of meningitis in Israel but has become extremely rare since babies began to be routinely vaccinated for it in the 1990s.
The father of one of the sick babies told Channel 12 News: “We didn’t vaccinate our 8-month old twins because I was exposed to information that opposed vaccines. Now I’m sorry I didn’t vaccinate her. It wouldn’t have happened if she had been vaccinated.”
The father said that his baby developed a fever and they were given antibiotics by the doctor for an ear infection but the fever didn’t abate. When she started vomiting one night, they took her to the emergency room at Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. The baby almost died that night and the hospital psychologist began to prepare the parents for the worst-case scenario. Fortunately, the baby began to stabilize and eventually recovered completely.
Another baby, a 7-month-old from Bnei Brak, was hospitalized in Schneider Medical Center in Petach Tikvah in serious condition a few days ago after contracting meningitis and unfortunately has already suffered permanent damage.
The baby’s parents said they were afraid to go to a medical clinic during the coronavirus crisis and that’s why they didn’t have him vaccinated. Sadly, the baby has suffered irreversible brain damage as well as permanent damage to his hearing. He is still hospitalized in the PICU and is receiving prolonged IV antibiotic treatment.
“This is a dangerous time for those who oppose vaccines who in the past have always benefitted from herd immunity,” Prof. Avi Bilvaski of Schneider Hosptial said. “Now that even parents who normally vaccinate their children are refraining from doing so, there are dangerous bacteria and viruses that have returned and unvaccinated children can catch them.”
“We are aware of parents’ fears of visiting clinics at this time but we’re calling on them to take care of their children and to make sure that their routine immunizations are given in a timely manner,” Prof. Bilvaski asserted. “Moreover, while the coronavirus hasn’t directly harmed many children, this is testimony to the indirect damage caused by fear of the coronavirus.”

There about 85 strains of meningitis and the vaccine protects from only 5 of those. How do we know that these babies had one of those 5?
The article states the specific bacteria that the babies had. Generally, a hospital would test this to make a diagnosis.
Correction, the vaccine protects against 13 of the strains
That would be a news to CDC. According to them one vaccine protects against 4 strains and another, still unrecommended, 1 against additional strain.
At what age is the vaccine given?
According to CDC meningitis vaccine is given at 11 -12 years old.

These comments are showing a clear lack of scientific knowledge. It is not expected for the layperson to understand the complexities of immunology and microbiology, so let me break this down into simple terms. Before the vaccine was around, Haemophilus Influenza type B (HIB) was the most common cause of meningitis in children. In 2017 in Eretz Yisroel a baby boy past away of meningitis after being vaccinated.
He said ALMOST NEVER SEEN AGAIN, not completely eradicated. And do we know what strain, etc.

Babies are not vaccinated for Meningitis in US until they are in their teens. Why does Israel schedule this vaccine when they are infants? It is criminal.
Even if it’s not necessary to do it in infancy, why on earth would you call it criminal? There is no reason NOT to. And the fact is that each country faces different challenges in diseases, and has to vaccinate differently according to the local conditions. These bacteria are more common in that area so it’s necessary to immunize babies; in the USA they’re less common, so the vaccine recommendation starts at about the age of 11, when the risk of infection becomes higher.
Because each medication including vaccines has side effects and negative consequences. Giving a vaccine that is designed for older children to babies is criminal.
I think you may be mistakenly confusing this with the meningococcal vaccine which protects against meningococcal disease. Meningococcal disease and can lead to bacterial meningitis and is routinely vaccinated for at sometime around the teen years in the US. I dont know about the schedule for it in Israel.
However, Haemophilus influenzae type b, commonly known as “Hib” is a vaccine that is routinely administered to babies in the US and seemingly also in Israel.
Babies are vaccinated against Hib. Teens are vaccinated against meningococcus. Two different pathogens that cause meningitis.
How can you rely or health organizations? Here in NYC every newborn is obligated to get the hepatitis B vaccine… hey one second.. according to the FDA :Not more than 25 micro grams per day but ok to get 250 micrograms into a 1-2 day newborn just because is injected into the muscle!!!!!

Especially for you 1 day baby..And don’t fid excuses saying since they get aluminum from other sources it’s ok to inject it in your baby.
