GREAT NECK, Nassau County (WABC) — Multiple people, most of them teenagers, were exposed to carbon monoxide in Great Neck, Nassau County.
It happened just after 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Chabad of Great Neck on East Shore Road, ABC 7 reported.
Authorities were called after numerous people in the building complained of feeling nauseous and dizzy.
Many of the patients being treated were said to be adolescents.
Twelve people were treated at the scene by EMS, one person was taken to a local hospital.
The cause of the carbon monoxide is believed to be from the heating system in the building.
Chabad of Great Neck has released a statement that no one was seriously injured and the incident has not affected the Chabad Day Camp which is currently in session.
“Early this morning carbon monoxide alarms went off at Chabad’s old building. Baruch Hashem, our alarms are active and working. Emergency services came to the scene and thank G-d everyone is okay, just a water boiler malfunction and they cleared the building to re-enter.
“Please note: Much of the news circling isn’t true- BH, all the staff are feeling good, and this was NOT at the main camp campus,” they said.
Scary! Good reminder for everyone to check their carbon monoxide alarms, and purchase some if you don’t have any. This could have ended really badly..
Baruch HaShem everyone is totally fine. To clarify, the carbon monoxide detector is what alerted us and the fire department responded immediately.
I can’t stress enough the importance of having and maintaining proper carbon monoxide detectors. . Thank you Hashem!
1. Get those mezuzos checked!
2. Smoke detectors on each floor as well as carbon monoxide detectors on each floor!
B”H the CO detectors were functioning properly!
Go Yenti and Rachie!!!!
You are famous now!!!
Hope you feel better.
From your friends!
A smoke alarm and CO detector on every floor of the house, placed near boiler room, kitchen. It saves lives- as it did in this story b”H- as well as long term health.
Also a fire extinguisher and KNOW HOW TO USE IT PROPERLY.
In other States we also conceal carry a weapon for protection.
Children need to learn firearms safety as well.
If “noch ah s’reifa vert men reich” (-after a fire one becomes rich because after Din comes Rachamim), then noch ah carbon monoxide vert men gor reich ( -after a CO one becomes extremely wealthy monetarily and spiritually because after Ruach comes Chai and Yechida)! Brocha v’hatzlocha.
