Despite the rain and cold weather, over 1000 people braved it and came out to be a part of Kids Night at the Giant Menorah at Golders Green Station in London.
This was the 34th year of the Giant Menorah in Golders Green Station, a Chanukah icon in Golders Green, started by Dr. and Mrs. Weinbaum.
At Kids Night, organized by Rabbi Yossi Simon, “Tzivos Hashem, salute the children – our future,” Rabbi Mendel Gordon was the emcee, there was a special choir, children from all over the country said the 12 pessukim and mamorei Chazzal, especially chosen by the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
Fire and juggling show, trapeze artist, glow glasses, live music, balloon modelling, clowns, Chanukah gelt and doughnuts were given to everyone. With singing from Rabbi Eli Levin and live music the participants were dancing and the atmosphere was electric, even the rain stopped as the event started. People from all ages, all backgrounds are attracted to the event.
This is in addition to the other 7 Public Menoras that are erected by Tzivos Hashem under the organization of Rabbi Yossi and Chanie Simon from Chabad of Golders Green.
The Menorah was lit every evening of Chanukah, at Golders Green Station with a public lighting attracting crowds from all parts of Anglo Jewry. One night was Israeli night, run by Rabbi Shneur Glitzenstein with an Israeli band and hot kugel and cholent, much appreciated in the cold weather.
Each night a different Guest of Honor and a variety of Chazzonim sang at the Menorah. Close to 500 Menoras were distributed, enabling people to light at home – many for the first time in their life! Over 3,500 doughnuts were given out and consumed at the Giant Menorah.
The menorah lighting takes place in the evenings. During the day Tzivos Hashem were in schools and community centers throughout London and the UK with the ‘’Olive Press’’ taking fresh olives and pressing them into olive oil; which is traditionally used to light the menorah commemorating the miracle of finding the oil in the Beis Hamikdosh.
It was a freezing cold night, but nothing stopped the crowds!
It was an amazing turnout, as is evident by the pictures above!
