In late 2000, from their headquarters office in 770 Eastern Parkway, the staff at JEM (Jewish Educational Media) launched a ground-breaking initiative; one that can modestly pride itself on having touched the lives of Lubavitchers and Chabad followers worldwide.
Today Living Torah, the weekly video magazine featuring the Rebbe’s application of Torah to timely events and issues, is shown every week in 8 languages, in thousands of Chabad centers, shuls, schools and homes.
A dedicated and talented team heads this undertaking, and they take their mission seriously – to enhance countless of people’s Hiskashrus to the Rebbe.
“For the past 10 years,” explains JEM director, Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin, “the staff have spent their days- and often their nights- preserving, researching, conducting interviews, producing, editing and translating Living Torah.”
This year marks the historic celebration of a full decade of Living Torah, and to celebrate, JEM is launching a new campaign. “Join The Living Torah Team,” which gives viewers the opportunity to get involved.
“Some of our team members are not on staff,” says Rabbi Shmotkin. “The mother who sits down with her children to watch a Timeless Moment with the Rebbe; the bochur who watches on his iPod, the high school girl who watches with her class, and the Shliach who shares Living Torah with his community, are also team members.”
By making a monthly donation -even only a small amount- you too can be on the Living Torah Team. You can enable them to keep the inspiration coming and continue this critical but expensive project.
Every new Team Member will receive a beautiful print of the Rebbe from The Living Archive. New members will also be entered into a weekly raffle for an exclusive, beautifully framed 32″ picture of the Rebbe. Raffle winners will be posted online every week.

How stupid people are!
You are saying they shouldn’t have put in goyishe music, when you watch goyishe movies?! Shut your mouth, you have no right to say that.
You are right they shouldnt have put that music in, but YOU have no right to say that!
what a beautiful video
it gives me great joy to see the rebbe smiling and encourages
us to go on and do more mitzvahs. may hashem grant us all
many happy and healthy years until moshiach comes
It took my breath away to see live footage of the Rebbetztn .Could you imagine being at the Ohel with both th Rebbe AND his mother – Royalty personified . Thank you for the love and inspiration .
We always appreciated and still appreciate the Rebbe perfectly well, we continue to follow his hora’os and learn his Torah as best we can, we are greatly inspired by this video, and we can’t wait for the Geula!
One does not have to be an Einstein to recognize that this music was not taken from the nigunim that the Rebbe taught, nor from the many Nichoach tapes available. Whether it’s from a Walt Disney film, Paramount pictures, or Yanni, it’s definitely not from any Jewish source. Yes, the Rebbe was maleh a number of non-Jewish tunes, then again he is a Rebbe! Hopefully, going forward JEM will stick to nigunim within the daled amos of Chabad.
KINDERLACH, LET’S APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY OF THIS VIDEO, APPRECIATE THOSE WHO PUT IT TOGETHER, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, LET US REALLY PRACTICE WHAT THE REBBE PREACHED AND PLEADED WITH US FOR, AND THAT IS TRUE AHAVAS YISROEL.
The video is beautiful. As a bal teshuva I can say that the music definitely sounds like it comes from a walt disney movie, but incredible stuff none the less. Keep up the great work.
pleeeeeez kinderlach.. stop fighting. I recall quite vividly when the Rebbe taught shamils niggen and that was from a goy..He elevated the niggen.. the niggen had a message and it was a proper message. so let’s not get bent out of shape and look at the good part of this presentation- consider that we are fortunate to have this. Since I already opened my big “mouth” I think it would nice if everyone remembers who it was that thought to record everything.. R. C.B. Halberstam really should be appreciated for his incredible foresight.. Let’s try and keep this positive –… Read more »
Let’s concentrate on the Beauty and the Holiness of our Dear Rebbe! Let’s appreciate the many Glorious moments we had and I”YH will have, once again, really really Soon, with the coming of Moshiach immediately Now!
Noach Heber!!!!!!!!!!!
(Abba!)
You look good! 🙂
I love reading the stupid comments about classical music being termed “goyish” in the society we live today, it makes me laugh how ignorant some of you really are.
moshiach now with our rebbe at the lead!!!!!
how in the world would u know if its not jewish? or maybe your just making that up
Give them the benefit of the doubt perhaps avremy Get wrote some new music that gives you the wrong vibes but it’s not what you are saying it is..
vos mient oscars? All I know is that during sifiras haomer everyone is discussing weather or not the music they just listened to is goyish
This is a beautiful video, and it hurts me to see that the first response so many people have is to criticize the music. When will we get sick of filling this website with negativity after every article? Honestly, the JEM team could have set this film to gangsta rap and I still wouldn’t have been half as disturbed as I am after reading how so many nitpicking armchair critics ignore every beautiful moment we just watched to bicker about the soundtrack.
No 6, are talking foolishly! To the rest of you, this is definitely goyishe music which should NOT have been put to this video of the Rebbe! a chassidishe nigun would have been more in order!
🙁 🙁 🙁
how can you put this music on a rebbe video???
to #6 you dont need to watch movies to be able to tell that the music (while nice) is not jewish music…
it is sad because there is really no need. with the smallest effort they could have produced beautiful jewish music with the same affect.
the music is a bit hmm ‘not so fit’ for a Rebbe video
That’s such an obsurd comment!
we have nigunim that can accomplish more
perhaps this discussion will bring about jem .. music singing with the rebbe wow how powerful that would be
let us all stay positive jem does wonders and we are sooo proud and thank-full for and i am sure the rebbe has much nachas too
Beautiful video…some footage to dark…hard to see.
To 1&2 there’s nothing Goyish about this music, the fact that it was (if) used in a none Jewish production means nothing.
This is a mistake, the screenshot is of the Rebbe walking on Eastern Parkway, its the alleyway between what is now Chitrik’s house & Drizin’s house which has been rebuilt and changed.
How would you know do you watch Goiyeshe movies??!! If yes than who are you to comment what JEM can put with there videos?
beautiful video, watching with tears..
Just brings home how much we miss him and didn’t really appreciate him enough while he was here !
it brought back such amazing times from my youth growing up in C.H.. missing the Rebba !
If I’m not mistaken that is clearly music from a goyishe movie, I don’t think that should go together with a rebbe video,
I expect better from JEM,
the staff should be keeping to only jewish music, and not this goyish mishigas
(this is not the first time they do this, and I sure hope it’s the last)
seriously, beautiful clips but the music belong at the oscars…
