Singing Chabad niggunim from the age of 2, Shabi Soffer has been a member of various singing and performing groups over the years, including the popular Yeshiva Boys Choir (YBC).
With his debut solo song composed by Boruch Levine, the 10 year-old Crown Heights boy embodies the idea that music is an expression of the heart and mind.
Titled “Refua Shleima” and based on the words of Dovid Hamelech in Tehillim, the song pleads with Hashem to send a speedy and full recovery to all in Klal Yisroel.
The young Soffer closely identified with its message in light of recent illnesses and tragedies in the Chabad community.
“This song is a tefillah,” he states. “I have seen the effect on a family when someone is sick – how hard it is for the people around them and their loved ones, some of which I see in school.
“We must remember and daven for all those who are sick and need help and we also have to remember and daven that we continue to be healthy and thank Hashem for that,” he says.
The music video, directed by Yosuke Hosoi and Danny Finkelman of Sparks Productions, was filmed in Brooklyn and shows Soffer boarding a city bus to visit the elderly in the Maimonides Medical Center in Boro Park and the Boro Park Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
Music was played by Fitche Benshimon who has been working with Shabi since he was 7 years old.
