Mendel Markel, former contender of the popular singing competition ‘A Jewish Star‘, is currently involved with a new musical project.
A soon-to-be published book, entitled ‘Blueprints of the Universe’, contains a poem for each Parsha in the Torah.
They are based on the poetry of Ian Heiss, a friend of Markel who majored in poetry at University of Pittsburgh (class of ’71).
“I was really lit up by the depth as well as flow of his poetry and how he also included things from Rashi and Midrash,” Markel told COLlive.com.
“This is poetry of a level seldomly heard in Jewish music. I adapted them into songs by adding choruses and sometimes tweaking the verses where I felt it would help the flow for song adaptation.”
Markel recently also composed a song to the moving poem written by Pesha Leah Azoulay OBM a short time before her tragic death.

What’s happened cannot be changed.
At least he realized from the contest that he should push himself. Other people dont make the person, it’s the person that makes himself. You don’t need other people’s approval to be what YOU want to be.
KINDA COOL
Why didnt Mendel do sometihng like this for the contest?? It wouldve gotten alot more votes!
