Chabad of Hoboken, New Jersey, directed by Rabbi Moshe Schapiro, held its 9th annual Menorah Lighting outside of City Hall Sunday.
Despite the inclement weather close to 100 people joined (although many of them did stand under the awning by the steps of City Hall.)
Many local politicians were present, including US Congressman Albio Sires, State Senator Brian Stack and Mayors Richard Turner of Weehawken and Dawn Zimmer of Hoboken along with membes of the City Council.
Governor Jon Corzine had confirmed that he would be present and the governor’s detail was there for over an hour, until 5 minutes before the lighting, ready to greet the Governor (who resides in Hoboken, and who has joined us many times in the past), but due to an emergency, he was not present for the actual lighting.
A children’s program included entertainment by the small wonder puppet theater enacting the story of chanukah, arts and crafts, meet Judah Macabee and a raffle.
Everyone enjoyed hot latkes and donuts and many menorahs were distributed with the help of bochurim from the Morristown Yeshiva.
We had a great time! Thanks for making Channukah a special event for us all!
