Over 10,000 people attended the past two annual Chassidic Chanukah Festivals in south Florida, and this year’s staff and volunteers are preparing a program they expect to draw their largest attendance ever.
Lipa Schmeltzer, the most sought after and hottest Jewish music superstar today, will give a free concert on Wednesday, December 16, at 7:00 pm.
In addition to Schmeltzer, who’s from Brooklyn, New York, a team of Kenyan Safari Acrobats will be flying in from North Carolina to give a dazzling acrobatic performance.
The Lubavitch Educational Center (LEC) boys choir will further enchant the huge crowd participating in what has become known as the world’s largest Chanukah festival.
The Festival will be preceded by a 100 Menorah Car Parade, beginning at Chabad’s Regional Headquarters in Miami Beach, and culminating at the Festival in Gulfstream.
Other Festival highlights include the lighting of Florida’s largest Menorah, led by Cantor Rabbi Yossy Lebovics, and a large lineup of community leaders and dignitaries, free Chanukah gelt and goodies for the thousands of children in attendance, a delicious dinner (for a nominal fee), and prizes.
Rabbi Levi Tennenhaus, the event coordinator and Program Director for Chabad of South Broward, encourages those who can afford it, to purchase reserved seating: “The event, as always, is free. However, in addition to our major sponsors, individuals are entitled to reserve VIP seats for $100 per seat, and box seats for $25. This will help fund the festival, which runs at an enormous cost as a service to the community, and individuals who want the luxury and convenience to sit up front with their seats reserved exclusively for them and their families.”
Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Chabad of South Broward’s executive vice president, says the inspiration and impact annually achieved at the festival takes place at many levels: “The Festival itself is an event no one wants to miss,” he says.
“In addition, over the years, we have seen how the festival ignites the spark of Yiddishkeit (Judaism) in so many individuals, who are inspired, to do one more Mitzvah to bring the world one step closer to the Redemption and Moshiach.”
The Festival takes place in Hallandale Beach, at Gulfstream Park, US1 and Hallandale Beach Blvd. The event is annually produced and directed by Chabad of South Broward, leaders in Jewish Education, social services and community outreach.
